Can someone tell me why we are suppose to limit our caffine intake. Does it slow weight loss? Is it bad for our sleeve? I don't understand.

Caffeine is a diuretic. Hard to stay hydrated when your taking a diuretic.

My surgeon says that caffiene is an appetite stimulant. Go figure..for me I always thought it did the opposite

I believe initially, it has to do with the diuretic effect it has. My dr doesn't have a problem with me drinking it and I have had a couple of drinks of my husbands cold coffee and have had no side effects from it. I also drink chike coffee Protein powder mixed with Water and do fine it. I am 9 days post op.

I'm sure the acidic property may have something to do with it, also.

I do insure I drink a little more Water.

Hope this helps :)

My Nut did advice to take Black Decaf, but only two cups per day due to the amount our sleeves could tolerate, but they don't recommend more because they don't want us to loose Water and get dehydrated faster. It sometimes causes diarrhea after surgery on some people...

Caffeine in large quantities can dehydrate you. Since we're working to stay hydrated, too much caffeine is counterproductive.

When I drank caffeinated drinks I would drink them all day long, tossing in the occasional high caffeine energy drink, cups of coffee, or whatnot, so it's easy to estimate that I crossed that line.

A little caffeine here or there isn't going to work as a diuretic or to dehydrate you, but it's very easy to get acclimated to the effects of caffeine and to have to drink more and more to get the same effects, eventually leading to adverse effects.

My nut said that Decaf can be counted towards my Fluid intake, but not regular.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
