Hi! I haven't had surgery yet, but I plan to have mine as soon as we get out for the summer. In that case, I will have more time to recover and get adjusted to my new lifestyle.

I am a teacher currently working in our district central office- and I am taking two weeks for recovery- its hard to know how any one person will respond to surgery. Some are back to work in a week it seems, and others had a month...you know you best. But depending on when your spring break is.....you could wait till summer then not worry and be really on track and healed for the start of the school year, or you can do the week or two then get back to a routine quickly....I know more options is not much help:) Personally, I think if I were still in a classroom at my age (53) I would wait till summer just because of the demands of the classroom and being on my feet all day.

I had my surgery over winter break (12-31). I go back on the 22nd. I easily could have went back a week earlier. I also had no complications. I would say 2 weeks would be enough time for recovery. It will be hard for me to get back in the swing of things. I already can hear those school bells! I am 46 and work in Sped.

I am a high school math teacher and had my surgery 6/25/2012. I preferred to do it over the summer and my doctor wanted some pre-op weight loss so that's just how the time line worked out. However, if I had to do it over I would still do it over the summer but probably later in the summer. I'm 28, single, no kids and I didn't think about how much of an effect it would have on my social life. I didn't have any complications but I felt like I was hindered from enjoying my summer... I didn't get to do a lot of the things I love to do over the summer. Plus, I think having 7-8 weeks off after surgery actually hampered my recovery. I didn't regain energy or a routine until I went back to school. I think I may have squandered too much of my "golden" time by being lazy and not following orders strictly enough. Getting back into the swing of things in August really helped. Personally, I would have done it maybe 4-6 weeks later and I don't know if I could have done it during the school year. (Plus, I'm not totally "out" about it so being MIA did not raise eyebrows.)

Good luck!

I'm not a teacher, but my husband is. I waited to have mine done until June (although I made the decision in March) so that he would be here to help me with the adjustment. I'm REALLY glad I did. He cooks and I was pretty miserable for a few weeks after - I had a lot of abdominal pain. Everyone is different though and I know folks that were right back at it. I know that I couldn't have been on my feet, doing all the walking and bending that you folks do that early out though!

I'm a 2nd grade teacher and had my surgery last Monday. I was thinking of taking 3-4 weeks even though my doctor approved up to 6 weeks. I think I'm going to get through the puréed stage before going back. It's going to be hard to get through the day. I'm afraid I will get so busy I won't make my Protein & Water goals. I will wait closer to the time to make a decision. But maybe start with half days to make a gradual return. Dreading the teacher's lounge...

Hello-

I'm a high school special education teacher, but I work in a private school for students with significant disabilities. My goal is to have surgery in March and I'm planning on taking 3 weeks off, but will have to be on light duty after that with not lifting or restraining students (we have students with major behaviors as well). My school is planning on getting a sub so there will not be any pressure to return if I am not ready!

College, and I had surgery Aug. 9, back to work Aug. 22 with classes starting a week later. I was fine although I was very tired during week 3 -- probably because I walk a lot when working. I would feel tired when I got home; I'd fall asleep watching the 6 p.m. news. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
