Hello, just read all the posts and hope to become a member and contributor here too. My surgery date was confirmed yesterday so am reading like crazy to quell concerns that have suddenly become more urgent. the blood clot post has made me think this should have began much sooner since that wasn't even on my radar....

I've had just the opposite experience. Instead a bad cold turning into bronchitis every few months as usual' date=' I've been sick only once in the year since I was sleeved and it was much milder and shorter than usual.[/quote']

Do not know why I had such an issue with it over last 8 months. I rarely got sick pre op.

Hey everyone.. I'm just curious.. Anyone here thats been sleeved for over 4 years? There's no one in my "support" group that is even close to 2 years. Do they just not need the support any more & just kinda drop off? I'm really interested in the long term success stories. :)

I will be sleeved 4 years at the end of next month.

I sill love my sleeve . I just wish that it helped more with junk food which goes down way too easy. It still takes a lot of willpower not to graze, but I still can't eat large portions for my meals.

Hi there - love to hear from long term sleevers - I had my op on 18 July 2012 and have reached my goal weight - I didn't have a huge amount of weight to lose but was getting bigger every year and already had some health issues. Just wanted to ask you if you have managed to maintain your weight loss after four years - if you did have a gain, was it much? And honestly how hard do you still work at eating healthy food and exercise?

Hello all! I am pretty new and I would love to join your group. I need all the support I can get! Just finished all my pre op requirements' date=' so next step is waiting to hear from my ins co.. I am scared but SO INSPIRED by you all & I am so excited!!! I have had hypothyroidism for about 13 years now & was wondering if you have to crush your meds for the rest if your life. Kinda worried bout that... Any tricks or suggestions? <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

I was sleeved July last year and have no problem taking tablets - the only ones my surgeon did not want me taking was anything antiflamatory as this is hard on your stomach - I am not even sure if that is for the rest of my life as I haven't asked again. Good luck with your approval!

I've gained back 10 lbs and it could easily be 15 if I didn't watch it carefully.

You asked how hard I have to work to eating healthy food and exercising.

I work just as hard now as I did before I was sleeved. The difference is then, I could eat right and exercise and not lose and get frustrated. Now I eat healthy and exercise but if I eat one wrong thing, I'll gain 2 or 3 lbs immediately. It takes all week to take off some splurge from the weekend.

Thanks for being honest, You must be so proud of yourself for what you have achieved and maintained - It has really inspired me to hear your story and makes me realise that the journey will continue for the rest of my life - it doesn't stop when you get to goal. I have had a terrible fear that I will put all the weight back on that I lost - a bit irrational I know but it relates to guilt as my diet has not been as good as it should be lately. I am visiting my dietician next week so will get back on track! Thanks again and wishing you all the successes you deserve for all the hard work you continue to do!

A progress report on me - I stopped eating sweet things for a week and have lost weight - 62.5 kg now but generally I seem to be maintaining. I really want to get rid of this habit of having a cake for a snack as I know as we can eat more this will cause me weight gain and I DON'T want to get on that guilt road again. Can't wait to see my dietician so she can give me a slap on the wrist! Can't wait to get back to work so I have money to finally join the gym or step into life classes - I need to be pushed it comes to exercise as I don't enjoy it!

Sweets are definitely my downfall. It's so hard to pass them up when someone offers something, like a cookie.

Ok I'm a bit slow but people actually make more than one account in order to subject us all to even more BS?

Great. It's pretty sad when you can't even join an online support forum and expect it to be that simple.

It's Jr High all over. I hated Jr High.

I know that it can be disheartening, but like life, you certainly meet a variety of different people no matter where you go and it adds to the spice of life! I find this forum great and everyone really supportive and some are even inspirational! I just take the positive contributions on board (which there are many) and ignore the negatives (which are few). All the best to everyone on this continuous journey and it's ongoing challenges!

I'm new to this forum as a posting member but have been reading for years. I've already been verbally attacked by one member for posting a bit of introspective thought regarding the beginning of my journey.

Good thing my big girl panties are humongous. I refuse to bully or BE bullied. ;)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
