Waiting for approval

Recommended Posts

I just sent in my paper work to the hosp that will be doing the lapband surgery and they said that my insurance will cover it, but that they have to go thru the determination process. Does anyone know what that consists of? What am I exactly instore for, besides losing weight and getting my life back? Each step I take with this surgery, I get scared....

Well, the determination process is just making sure that you meet all the requirements that your insurance sets. It is different depending on what your insurace company and plan is. Some companies have pretty rigorous standards that you have to meet and some don't.

Most insurance companies require that you provide a history of previous attempts at weight loss. Many require a supervised diet for up to six months before they will approve. You are also usually required to have things such as a nutritional consult, psychiatric evaluation, ekg, sleep apnea study and/or blood work.

Me too, I'm waiting on insurance approval!!!!

You might call your insurance and ask them what critera you have to meet. I called mine (twice) and they told me my BMI has to be a 40 and that it. I called again to make sure and was told the same thing.....mine was 41.2 when I went to the doctor. But I am waiting now for the final approval.....I hate the waiting game! I have no patience.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
