Alcohol and 2 weeks post op!

Recommended Posts

I have a serious question though' date=' I really doubt anyone has said anything here that you didn't already know. We've educated ourselves and we've all been warned about the risks of bleeds and ulceration... So it leaves me questioning... What is the point of all this? I'm not one to exagerate and act as though you're failing, neglecting yourself, abusing yourself or any of those things but I really wonder what you are looking for when you make a post like this?

I realize we are all here for support, but its not as though you are asking this in the spirit of "Is this OK or not" You just threw it out there and defended it when people scratch their heads.

I ask this sincerely, because "whats the big deal" is painfully obvious, and if its not, you should have never been a candidate for this surgery. I do not understand why people go through the trauma of a surgery like this, make choices that are so blatantly poor, turn around and make a post like this and get upset when no one is really going to hold your hand and walk you through it. I'm not saying you don't have a right to post here on this site but I for one am tired of posts like these and posts like "can I haz cheezeburger?" clogging up the new topics lists instead of people who are actually serious about making changes in their lives.[/quote']

I wasn't asking if it is okay, I wanted some feedback to see if anyone had any info besides high calorie intake and alcohol . And no this was never discussed in any of the classes beforehand . And if you you are tired of reading these posts than simply dont read them. There is a subject highlighted for a reason!! So you can keep scrolling when you see the subject alcohol of cheeseburger !

That's quite worrisome Is it in any of your handouts or patient guidelines? Most places give patients a binder of rules. For me the rules were on their website in the form of PDFs for us to print as we saw fit. I got them all and put them in a binder.

If you were not given specific guidelines I'd be happy to e-mail you a copy of mine if you are interested.

My surgeon only told me about alcohol because I specifically asked about it, he didn't give me a handout or anything.

He said its ok to have after 4 weeks out. I get why your asking Sarah, if its only about calories you might think you can have one or half a one but if it poses a real risk to your health you might think differently.

I don't know why people are acting like this, it's a perfectly valid question!

It's only a troll here to be a pain. This is more than likely a member who has already posted on this forum under their real name and wants to tell someone how they really feel or its someone who knows one the patients here personally. Either way it's silly.

I have to agree with you, someone hiding behind a fake name, but even then I question the credentials of the psychiatrist who evaluated this person.

That's why a lot of people are getting tired of some people on this forum !!! I guess they are just quick to insult . My friends dr. Told her 3 weeks , I read some posts and their dr. Said 3 months , I googled it and same thing a bunch of different answers!!! And all it said was about the calories ... No ulceration s or anything . Buying going to the dr. On Monday . For follow up . I'll see then what he recommends .

Yeah I think it's best to ask your doctor. I know alcohol acts as a blood thinner so that might be why your not supposed to drink it before your fully healed.

Let me know what your doctor says anyway :)

Oops I'm going to the dr.

It's best to talk to your own doctor about it, but I am interested in hearing the results. You can call it whatever you like, but the bottom line is still that I am not sure what you are looking for here. Outside of the troll who is probably must here to mess with everyone, not just you, no one has been mean to you and I'm getting tired of people running around with their hair on fire every time someone on here gives good, solid advice, which is that drinking at this stage is at BEST ill advised.

I am very careful to not be mean to anyone so this type of thing is really old. If we can't be adults and conversant without "omg people you are soooo mean no wonder blah blah blah" the internet is not the place for you.

So I'm enjoying a skinny girl cosmopolitan and I'm already down 20 pounds ' date=' so what is the big fuss about alcohol if your body can totally tolerate it ?!?!?!?[/quote']

Girl,2 weeks I had a hard time getting my Water in! But if you are fine then more power to you!! I am 6 weeks out and I have a had a few cocktails...so I'm not hating!!! And you know what, on top of that - people that say you are doing something wrong and going against the "diet" have probably done something too! Do what you think is best for you!

I think the bigger question is why Skinny Girl Margaritas. That stuff is nasty.

Seriously though from one Sarah to another, stay away from the booze for a good while. Not only can it cause ulcers and gastritis, but your liver is currently on overdrive processing all of the melting fat in your body. Don't pile more work onto it if you don't have to.

I agree with everything nurse grace and new sarah have said! Drinking this soon out is indeed a bad idea for all the reasons already stated. I don't believe anyone here has bullied you or been negative - just expressing their genuine and valid concerns for your health!

I, like nurse grace, don't understand why you posted this after the fact. I think it would have been more constructive and useful to you if you posted asking the question before you already started drinking.

I genuinely hope this does not cause a leak for you.

Just a question... If you lost 20 pounds and now no longer care that much about losing more, what are your stats? SW? GW? I'm not judging really just curious!

Best of luck and try to keep away from the drink - especially if you're losing quickly - for the reason newsarah said! You're liver is in overdrive at the moment! And probably already damaged from being overweight.

Oh and when working out - not sure if you know this since you seem to have been given limited post-op directions - try to keep away from any exercises that work your abs! That can negatively affect the healing of your incisions (which went through your abdominal muscles).

I guess being called a b***h isn't a negative thing these? Wow really ? I don't really care anyways, half those people are probably eating a cheeseburger while there throwing stones at others , but just don't have balls to admit ! I do care about losing weight and thats why i had the surgery due to the losing weight but then putting it right back on . I'm in no hurry to get down to a size 4 . I love curves. And kind of scared of being ALL bones. I currently weigh 180 and I am 5 4' and I called my dr. This morning and he said to weight 3 weeks post op. if your tolerate it than it shouldn't be affected. So thanks for everyone's concern but going by what doc said . Thanks again

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
