Well my Dr approved it and I ate it at 3 weeks post op but if you are on puree foods then yes you can :)

Everyones stages vary but I had it right after I finished my full liquid stage.

Yummy!!

I was on liquids for 3 weeks. Sometimes I wanted to cheat and eat something more substantial, but I figured better safe than sorry.

Though not recommended, I don't see hummus being a problem. But what would be a potential problem is what you might put it on.

I was going to say this... At 10 days out it will be too early for any kind of fibrous veggie and I'm not sure a pita chip would go down nice.

I'll tell you my experience... I was about 2 weeks out or so and I bought a bag of pork skins and used the small pieces to scoop hummus with. I was thinking I was doing well and being creative, not using any kind of bread or veggies and pork skins are all Protein.

Well. Hummus is one of those foods that goes down smooth and the pork skins break down with saliva to mush easily. So I ate... and watched TV and ate and ate and OMG CRAP I NEED TO SLOW DOWN.

A little too much............and Jelly The Sleeve did NOT like that very much at all. Nope. Not at all.

HOWEVER... before surgery I might have eaten it with a spoon. I'll never admit it open court.

Hummos is a go to food for me now. I didn't have it until after 4 weeks tho.

Now I have it almost everyday. My wife has started making one with roasted beetroot through it as well. And smokey babaganoush ooh yeah

Everyone's stomach is a little different, so I can only relate my experiences. I test a new food by eating about 1/4 teaspoon and waiting 5 minutes to see if I feel any discomfort. If none, then I eat a 1/2 tsp and wait another 5 minutes. I was able to eat boiled eggs, Vienna sausages, re-fried Beans, yogurt after 14 days. But everything was finely chopped or put in a blender. My stomach still doesn't like sugar free Jell-O, sugar free popsicles or chicken.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
