Grandma doesnt approve

Recommended Posts

Now. I'm 29 years old, and I don't need anyone's approval. BUT. My grandma called tody to tell me what a dangerous surgery this is (general, weightloss surgery). How selfish I am for only thinking if myself and not my 6 children. BANGHEAD. she says when I leave I ought to just "kids my kids goodbye." This woman has never had a weight problem a day in her life.

Why don't you just go on a diet?

You know you still have To eat healthy and exercise for life, so why don't you just eat healthy and exercise and skip the surgery? Why don't you just eat like a weightloss surgery patient?

You are just going to gain the weight, Al Roker gained 40 pounds.

And on and on. I just replied "I'm doing this completely for my kids. I appreciate your concern but I know what I'm doing. I hope I can prove you wrong"

I still had a good cry afterward. I do get that she's scared and surgery is scary. But surgery today isn't what it was in 1967 grandma.

Sigh. First it was my mom. Now she's my biggest cheerleader. NOW it's my grandma. I can never please that woman.

My grandma was very pushy for me to get the surgery once I told her. You should just educate her and let her know that you'll be around a lot longer for your kids and setting a great example to them by knowing how to be healthy. Tell her it'll make you happy and not to be so scared.

Get her online and let us tell her how you have scrutinized/agonized/thoroughly researched every facet of this journey. If anyone has made a VERY careful, educated and thoughtful decision, it is you! :). I have totally enjoyed all your thoughts and questions. If research helps make this successful, you will astound her. ...love the new pic!

You know your Grandma better than anyone. If you don't think you can educate her or talk her around I think you should cut her off and make it clear your not going to discuss it with her.

'Kiss your kids goodbye' type stuff is just poison. I'm sure she loves you and thinks she's helping but .........

I mentioned I was thinking of having WLS to my best friend and she was in that same boat as your grandmother. "Don't do it. It's too risky. Just go on a diet." Well if it was that easy of all the diets I have been on one surely would have worked. Diets worked for a while but never long term. I finely made the decision to not tell her anything more about it until it was over and done. And that was hard because it too 8 long months to get thru the approval process. Now she has lots of questions as she is also overweight but probably not enough to qualify for surgery. She is happy that I went ahead with it and came out with no complications. Keep you chin up. Your grandmother will thank you in the end.

My grandmother was thrilled when I said I was having the surgery. She was so excited that I would be thin and pretty again. She also said that she would support me if I chose not to stay with my husband after I was skinny enough to find a better man.

I love my husband, he was my best friend for 7 years before we even began dating, and he knew me skinny and fat. He has a very lucrative career, and treats me better than any man before him. I have no intention of ever leaving him. I take my vows seriously.

My grandpa, on the other hand, was really upset and scared for me. He said I didn't need it, and that it wasn't worth risking my life for. He supported my choice in the end, but I had to really educate him about it.

I much preffered my grandfathers response. Our parents should be concerned and a little apprehensive when we have any type of surgery, whether for emergencies or "elective". I

You could wait around until you are my age when I got the surgery, 63.

Everyone was dead already, no problems.

I think you handled it well.

Relatives, oy veh!

She also brought up the "you're just looking for a quick fix" line. Oy vey is right. Smh. She loves me. Has a funny way of showing it sometimes, and is very set in her ways, but she loves me. Maybe she'll come around when she sees me LIVING my life.

I've been dieting and exercising since I was 13. I'm ready for a more permanent solution. Not a quick fix. Sigh. I'm glad my mom is on board now and very supportive. She gets happy tears now when she talks about how proud she is of me for making this choice. She knows how unhappy I've been for years. <3

I think we can learn a lot from older people. On some issues though, we have to remember they're from another time with some of their thoughts!

She'll trurn around I'm thinking, when she sees the change in you and probably, in her mind, when you're 'safe'.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
