Nov 17th band date but help

Recommended Posts

I have never been able to tolerate chewable or liquid meds of any kind without vomiting. Will I be able to use tablets or capsules at all? My surgery is set for Nov 17th

I live 30 miles from the nearest store and I'd like to be prepared some how.

Thank you

Many people handle pills just fine, depending on the size. I cannot take anything huge, such as the typical adult Vitamin. But I tolerate pills the size of tylenol just fine.

I cant take pills at all unless they are crushed or cut up finely. There are so many adjustment processes that go along with being banded, and for me this was one of them. I take liquid Tylenol and Benadryl as needed. I usually chew up my Metformin, swallow, and suffer through a few seconds of the vile bitter taste washed down with Water. I suppose I view it as a tradeoff of sorts....and the nasty tasting "ick factor" is NOTHING compared to how good it feels as each pound comes off.

Also, the Viactic chewable Vitamins are actually pretty good, as are the Centrum chewables. I learned from my regular MD that most medicines can be ordered in liquid suspension and you can have them flavored (like they do for kids, lol) in your flavor choice like bubblegum, cherry, etc..

I have been taking the Building Blocks Bariatric chewable supplements and they are huge but I could see crushing them and adding them to a smoothie or something. They don't taste bad at all.

I crush the big ones, and mix it in some pudding. "like on the top." then the rest is not bad because it's sugar free pudding. Remember that!

Small pills I take 1 at a time, and sip it down with some tea.

See if any of this works for you, it's a thought!

I was Banded on 10/31/06 Shirley....

Fenry Ford Hospital

Dr. Jeffrey Genaw

was 356 - 10/05

before the band 10/06 231#

now with the band in place! we will see., time will tell...

Get back if you like.

I no longer require prescription medication...that was the biggest thing banding did for me! But when I needed antibiotics, they gave me capsules. I would take them put them in a small dish of Water, and whenthe outside became a bit soft, I swallowed it, no problem. I usually tried to drink some warm tea or something after to make sure it dissolved fully before trying to pass. I had no problems. You may have to work with your Dr. and pharmacist until you get each medication worked out, but most issues can be resolved with medications!

Good Luck--

Kat

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
