I regretted it when I was in pain...but I knew from reading this site that this was normal to feel this way immediate post op....loving it more and more as the pain goes away and the scale is already moving downward! Still on clear liquids...wish I was on regular food and healed...then I would probably say, no regrets!

A woman I work with had the bypass, and I don't see that she is any better off than me for having gotten it, since she is still very definitely obese. And I understand from folks that have shared an office with her that the flatulence is powerful!

I was on the fence about which to get. I was set on RNY at first since I had a lapband go so bad for me but my doctor really encouraged me to consider that most sleeve patients so just as well as RNY patients with FAR less risk of long term effects. ALSO our restriction is more permanent That is not to say that sleeve patients cannot eat around a sleeve but stretching a pouch and stretching a sleeve are two very different beasts.

so I got a sleeve Sept 6th 2012 and I am totally happy with it , my sister got the RNY August 20th 2012 , I can say that she took longer to recover (10 weeks) has had more issues than me with getting sick , weakness ect.... and we are loosing so far at the same pace ... I am 85 lbs down and she is 95 lbs down, I can eat more variety of food w/o any issues just in smaller quantities she cant eat allot of different food because of getting the dumping syndrome but she can eat more than me at one sitting ...

I think they both have their positives and negatives. study up and make the choice that fits you best...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
