Hot or Cold Drinks

Recommended Posts

I have my Lapband in a higher position than normal ( Dr. told me that is the way they are putting it on people that suffer from compulsive eating disorders), so my way of eating is different. As my band is higher I have bigger chances of PBing.

This is my problem>>>> For me to start eating solids I must drink a large glass of liquid to open the band. I believe the weight of the liquid produces pressure and makes food pass easier. I need to drink Iced Water and it takes me like 30 minutes to really start eating solids ( 1 hour in mornings ).

I heard some Bandsters take Hot drinks to start opening the Band, which sounds more logical, cause the heat makes the band "softer". But for me there is no way I can open with Hot Drinks ( it has to be with ice).

How many of you guys drink hot or cold????

I can drink either. As of right now I am a bit tighter in the AM but once I drink something (hot or cold) I am good to go!

Hot does the trick for me. Occasionally very cold ice Water will even tighten me up. Another one of those weird ways we are all unique in this process.

Iced drinks tighten me up. I always drink something warm before I eat, especially in the mornings The worst PB I ever had was trying to eat a meal after eating a snow cone!!!

Since getting my band, I cannot drink anything cold or it hurts. I have to have everything room temperature or warmer. I am very tight in the mornings and nothing but time seems to loosen me up then.

Are you eating and drinking at the same time or are you drinking 20-30 before you try eating? I am very careful with drinking before meals. Hot or cold doesn't seem to make a dfference with me.

It's gotta be ice cold for me. Hot just sits there feeling like a heartburn.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
