I know it's hard but hang in there. The first three days were the hardest for me. Every time you feel hungry, drink broth, drink Water, a Protein Shake, anything to help with the hunger. Good luck! Keep us posted.

sf popsciles and Jello...try to hang in there....I did it for 3 weeks (the extra week was by choice, I know glutton for punishment) I hit "the wall" on day 3, once I got past day 3, it was smooth sailing...

you can do it! stay positive!!!!

I'm on day six, and unlike a lot of people that sweet SF stuff just seems to make me hungrier. Nothing kills my munchies like a nice HOT mug of chicken broth.< /p>

I agree with NurseGrace, HOT stuff helped me. I was allowed Tomato Soup and low fat strained cream of chicken Soup (or cream of mushroom. That is what tided me over between shakes

I'm on day 3 and totally feel your pain. Unfortunately my doctor's office didn't send me my pre op diet til 2 days before and I was not prepared. So tomorrow I can finally make it to the grocery store to buy all the sugar free items. Stay strong and if you need to vent, just msg me!

I'm glad my surgeon didn't require a pre-op diet, I just had to do Clear Liquids the day before surgery. I really don't think I could've stuck to it! :-/

My surgery is on Monday the 21st and I started liquid diet on Monday consisting of three Protein Shakes a day along with Greek yogurt, s/f Jello, broth, & light low carb dinner consisting of 3-4 oz of lean meat with two cups of salad or non starchy veggies for dinner. According to nutritionist, this shrinks your liver but also the extra Protein in your body will help with the healing.

Hi just and warning, before you start eating Popsicle's, and Jello, ask your doctor. I'm on my last day of the pre-op liquid diet, and I was only allowed Protein Shakes and crystal light, propel zero, etc

There was no negotiation, on that part. We all have different doctors with different rules. So just double check.

I just know it was not a pleasant two weeks of dieting, but I did follow what my physician told me to do, and yes I did survive it. For those of you who don't have to do it or get easier diets, YAY for you!!!!! But honestly, follow your doctor's wishes because there is logic behind their rules. Oh....BEST OF LUCK!! This is a short two weeks to the NEW YOU!

I only had to do a 3 day yogurt and liquid diet and I thought I was going to die! I can't imagine doing it longer. All I can say is hang in there and good luck! Ugh! Hey.. The good thing is.. It's a lot easier post- surgery when you have no hunger.. What a blessing, I love my new tummy :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
