New to the whole process, Aetna, What can I expect?

Recommended Posts

Update!!! WOW is all I can say. I am so excited about what is about to happen that I can cry. The family trip is underway for June 2, but what is so great is I have already begun the nutritional visits, found out that I was not required to lose any weight with it (although it appears that you will without event trying), just have to be able to monitor what I eat, and show that I can be consistent for at least 7 days out of the month. My nutritional visits will end the later part of May which means my application can be submitted to the INS and I should have an answer back by the time we set sail! Returning I should have a surgery date set. I am loving the idea of knowing that this will indeed be my turn around year!!!

I have Aetna and I only had to do 3 mos of a supervised diet wich was meeting with the Nut 3 x and going over what I eat etc. I didn't have to do a pre op diet. It was all so easy. The time frame was 11 mos from consult to surgery date.

Thanks for posting Rycherchick, My journey seems to have been very similar to yours. My initial visit was on the 18th of January, I had my EGD done about two weeks later, I had my Psych eval done and initial Nut visit in Febuary and three more followed approximately 30 days apart from one another for a total of four appointments. It ended on May 28th. In the mean while, My doctors office clerk was working behind the scenes getting the other information that would be needed which was a two year history of being overweight. Since I had already been seen by another physician a few years back and was on Phentermine for a while, I had that taken care of. So all in all, it does seem to be a smooth transition. I can say that I have a great group working for me. (I also have nurse co-workers that had the same proceedure who are helping me through the initial process and helped me know what to expect. It is great to say that they have also become a great support system for me and while I will be in the hospital, one nurse has opt to be my personal nurse/coach through the healing process! I am so blessed throughout this whole ordeal. I can't wait to be beautiful again!

UPDATE: I had recieved a date for July 22nd for surgery, but now it has been moved to July 29th! Hey, I am not gonna complain. I will take it! I have come a long way from my initial post and I am still trucking until that day I change me forever. I am SOOOO excited! I am not telling everyone though, because there are always some nay sayers and negative people that have everything to say about it, and none of it is going to help my situation. So only my husband, parents, grandfather, oldest son, and a few co-workers know. Now, it seem like father time is on tons of sleeping pills?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
