Hi all! I got sleeved on 1/07 at Winchester Hospital. No pain (since the gas resolved!) but I'm feeling weak and not sure I can go back to work on Monday. Dr. Ameri was my surgeon and has a wonderful reputation but I'm wondering if his guidelines are a bit strict. Two weeks of fluids pre-op, two days postop of no liquids, 1 week of clears and 2 weeks of full liquids. Even with two Protein Shakes a day, I still don't feel like I'm taking in enough. I'm afraid motto follow his guidelines but was wondering if anyone else had him as a surgeon and what your experience was.

Congrats! He did my surgery on October 1st. I absolutely LOVE him!! Yes, his post op is a bit strict, but honestly for me, it flew by. I haven't had any problems with anything I've had to eat. Haven't thrown up once. I really believe it's because I eased into it. Day of surgery I weighed 206, today I'm at 161.

Thanks for responding! I have my postop appointment on Tuesday. Did the staples hurt coming out? Also, did he advance our diet at that time? I would love to have a scrambled egg!

Staples didn't hurt coming out. Maybe just a tiny pinch. Louise did mine. Not sure if we were on the same timetable....she advanced me to Protein Shakes made with stuff in them. Like banana and Peanut Butter and things like that. She also said I could have Tomato Soup. I remember all I wanted was something that wasn't sweet!! She'll give you a guideline with dates on when you can advance to purees. I want to say it was at about 4 weeks out. It's a pretty detailed list. Like I said, I think his post op diet is the main reason why I've had no problems with anything I've tried. Stick to the plan....it's only for a couple of months, but it's so worth it! Good luck'

Thanks! I had a rough morning. I started with a sugar free carnation instant Breakfast and could only get 1/2 down and started feeling nauseous. So, I took a break and started sipping a Protein Shake and the nausea worsened. I feel like I'm not doing as good as I should and I'm nervous because I'm going back to work on Monday. I called Dr. ameri because I felt like I was doing something wrong and he told me that sometimes people can not tolerate cool or cold drinks as it might be causing my stomach to spasm. He suggested something warm. I had chicken broth and got immediately relief. I don't know if I can get a Protein shake down at room temp tough!! I'm going to stick to broth and Water until I see him Tuesday. We're you able to tolerate cool or cold fluids?

I could hardly tolerate ANY liquids my first week. He suggested Vitamin Water, which worked like a charm. Still have to drink everything room temperature. I'm just starting to be able to drink things from the fridge. As for your protein....Unjury has a chicken broth flavored Protein that you can take in warm, like broth. I've never actually tried it, but a lot of people on here love it. Maybe that'll help? You're still so early on, I think your goal right now should be just to stay hydrated. The protein will definitely come! Just listen to your body and you'll be fine.

It went well. staples are out and it feels so good not to have them itching and pulling. Louise did exactly what you told me she would do...she outlined each step by date. I'm still amazed how slow he advances the diet but I'm sticking to it. Any good suggestions for Protein Shakes? I can't seem to find one I like. Did you try Isopure?

I make my own. I couldn't get the RTD ones down. Pre-op my favorite was chocolate Protein Powder with Water and ice, mixed with a banana and some Peanut Butter. Post op, I really enjoyed the chocolate powder with coconut almond milk....tastes just like an almond joy. Now I mostly stick with vanilla powder, mixed with the coconut almond milk, a banana and some pineapple. Just like a piña colada! If you're having trouble, try making your own. You can use sugar free pudding mix to add some flavor, or a lot of people on here use sugar free Torani syrups to mix it up.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try that. I'm finding my mornings are rough. I get up and drink about 8oz of Vitamin Water and then have a yogurt about 1-2 hours later but I feel so nauseous. Usually after I have some warm Soup, I start to feel better. Afternoons are definitely better and that stinks cuz I'm a morning girl. Did you experience this?

For the first 4 weeks post op I woke up every morning feeling really nauseous. I finally found that drinking hot tea first thing was the best for me. It's like it opened everything up. That way I could get in my muscle milk or Protein shake easier.

Try drinking your Soup for breakfast. I know this seems a bit weird but this early out you can do anything that makes it easier. Remember to sip, sip and sip some more. At this point staying hydrated is more important than anything else so do what you can to get as much Fluid as you can, and Fluid does not have to be plain water!

Hope you feel better soon, I know you will. I know I couldn't have gone back to work until I was about 3 weeks out, and then improbably would have asked for a siesta in the afternoon to have a quick nap!

No he wasn't. I was sleeved by Dr Garcia in Mexico. I read your post and had experienced the same thing so thought I would reply. I did have Decaf tea. Just regular breakfast tea but the decaf version. I put milk in it (calcium plus) and sipped. It was the only thing that got me through the first few weeks.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
