I found a great doctor to do the surgery over in Cincinnati. I am waiting for the phone call right now to get my surgery date. I am really nervous. I am doing it with no support from the family.

They said they will be there if I decide to do it, but they are not supporting me to make the decision. (if that makes sense). I am sure they will be there to take care of me. They just don't want it to happen.

That's my family though. I know what is best for me.

Your success is an inspiration.

Hi Indiana Bandsters,

I'm originally from Indiana and want to go back soooo bad. I'm from the middle of the corn fields, but have spent the last 25 years in the city in Jacksonville Florida.

Just wanted to say hi Hoosiers!!! Good luck on your band journey!

Beversman, my Florida friends and coworkers were very supportive of my band. My Indiana family couldn't understand why I would spend that much money on something I should be able to do myself. Of course they have known me for 54 years, 44 of which I have been overweight. It was worth it to me! But you gotta love the frugal farm mentality....I'm still proud to be an Indiana farm girl!!!

Just wanted to say hi to all my fellow hoosiers! I am from Columbus...looking into getting the lap band. I met with my doctor today and she is supportive but I walked away with a prescription for an appetite suppressant.

Beversman - I am checking out Dr. Curry in Cincinnati - I'm interested to hear about your experience with him.

Well thanks and hope to be talking to you all more in the future :peep:

So far Dr. Curry has been great. I got my surgery date for 12/22/06 -- I go to see the nutritionist on the 4th of Dec... Then I have a two week liquid diet (to shrink my liver before surgery). He has a ton of experience as well. He is on this web-site all the time answering posts. If you want to speak with him here, his name is DrC.

Indiana Farm girls rock ;-) if i do say so myself.

Hi There Indy girls!!

I was not trying to say anything bad about any other doctors, honest!! I was just wondering why all the Indy girls were going out of state for their bands when there was a wonderful Indy doctor here doing the band that's all...close to home, fully qualified, just curious!

And also to answer the question to the one young lady's question about how I took off the 118 pounds with my band-

I followed the rules-honestly-that's how I did it! I have found if you follow the first year then you are good to go. You have to REALLY want to have the lifestyle change and to stick to it.

You cannot expect the band to do all the work. You have to expect YOU to help the band work. It's really that simple. There is no big secret to it. And yes, it's hard at first with the liquid diet. But come on now, none of us starved to death. We just thought we were. It's mind over matter and how bad you want to lose the weight.

So, that's how I lost and have kept off the 118 pounds and have gone from a woman's 24 to a petite 2. (and I'm only 5 foot tall by the way). And no, I do not have the loose saggy skin either-everyone asks that question! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Tanya

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
