dollbaby1969 7 Posted January 18, 2013 This is not the most pleasant topic to discuss. But I am curious to know other's experience. I am 1 week and 1 day post op. I have only had 1 BM since my surgery. I was very happy about that one because I thought it meant that my system was awake and doing it's thing. Since then there has been nothing. I am wondering if this is because of the liquid diet. Has this been anyone elses experience?
lessofmeismore 1,405 Posted January 18, 2013 Buy some milk of magnesia and take a dose when you feel like you need a bowel movement. It's safe right after surgery...so no worries and it works... Constipation is common with this surgery.
franken05 7 Posted January 18, 2013 I have had the same experience. Give it time. If you have pain call the doctor or its been longer than a week. It took me about a week to get going and even 5weeks out I'm not regular.
MOMW 71 Posted January 18, 2013 I am 7 months out and still have an occasional bought. I take 2 stool softeners daily. I use the unflavored benefiber if things are really sluggish. Keeping your fluids up helps as does a daily dose of oatmeal.< /p>
cmaloney 151 Posted January 18, 2013 I'm 4 months out & use m.o.m every 3 days to keep things moving along. It's the worse feeling ever when things are backed up!!
Holly5.3 423 Posted January 18, 2013 I suffered horribly until I could get more Fiber in my diet. What's helped me is one prune a day and when I need help, Colace softener was gentle and helped. I eat a fiber one brownie as a treat every 3-4 days as long as I haven't had any other carbs that day. Raw veggies are so under-rated! good luck!
tmoore4949 9 Posted January 18, 2013 I was eating low fat yogurt and found that was a problem for me. Although I needed protien. I happily gave it up and noticed the difference. That means cheese is definitely out of my diet. I also take 2 stool softeners. Things seem to "going" okay now.
Ms.AntiBand 2,984 Posted January 18, 2013 Another cause could be any pain meds will contribute to Constipation also.
