How long did you take off work?

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on taking 3 weeks. Depending on how the 2 wk post op goes' date=' I could go back earlier. I'm working up until the day before surgery. I have a full-time desk job and a part time desk job that I'm a bit concerned about. Not sure if I will have the energy to do both, but we will see.[/quote']

Seems a bit excessive, I have a desk job to & took off as little as possible.

Heading back Monday 2/25 after surgery on 2/14. I could have made it back sooner, but I was pretty weak from a week long clear liquid diet.< /p>

Not obsessive! I have a desk job too, but still did not feel good enough to work after 2 weeks, so took a 3 rd week off to gain energy.

Ha ha ha it's all good. To be fair it's each to there own experience really. Maybe I'm just lucky because I might have a higher pain threshold, no complications etc etc?

I took 4.5 weeks and have to say it's been tough back at work this week. I'm a Chef and on my feet all day. But I'm sure it will get better.

My surgeon said six weeks, so I took six weeks. I had the luxury of FMLA, Sick Bank (so I received regular pay the entire time) and a very employee friendly contract with my school system and teacher's union. The last two weeks were pure fluff, but it was nice to establish a new routine without the stress of working.

My surgery was 2/11. I'm headed back to my desk job Monday 2/25. I took off 2 weeks. The second week was nice because I've been tired.

That is a good point of using the sick time not only for dealing with pain, but to get into a routine that will work for an individual just out of WLS. There are so many balls to juggle in the air after surgery. Working on top of that might be too much. We have to think about when to eat, how much to eat and how many grams of Protein in addition to proper walking, drinking enough Water and breathing properly(I had trouble with this). Who needs the stress and demands of work when also having to deal with all these conflicting issues? Not to mention any emotional or physical issues that might be going on such as pain, swallowing or gas bloat issue that probably will occur. It is tough being a new WLS survivor. Take the extra time and take care of yourself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
