I was pretty good until the night before when I got really nervous. The next morning I was first up though so I did okay.

After my surgery I was offered by my surgeon to see photos photos taken during the surgery. I looked at the photos, and they were pretty cool, but it really hit home when I saw the pic of my stomach laying on the table. That's when I really asked myself what the heck I just did and realized just how permanent this is. I'm sure a few weeks down the road I will feel much better about it. Of course it didn't help when I stepped on the scale this morning and was up 13 pounds from yesterday! I know it's all Water weight but its still frustrating.

Praying for all March 13th sleevers today. yesterday I had my pre-op and although not officially approved after some errors, the hospital says they will... because im not officially approved, my feelings have been more of, I guess, in denial. Yesterday, getting my antibacterial cloths for surgery and doing all the admission papers, it became real. So now I'm not sure about how I feel, super scared?! but I will push through. I'm 5ft 7 inches and a 1/2 and started at 264. I'm at 253 and surgery is first thing at 7:30 am on the 19th. My goal is around 160. I'm looking for a buddy to see my way through and for a little support. I HAVE A WONDERFUL SUPPORTIVE FAMILY, just want a buddy who can relate to what I'm going through. Please message me if you need that too and we are near the same time. Thank you all for all the info I've gotten from this site and for all the tips! God Bless us all!

My surgery is in 2 weeks (march 27)! I am very excited about this. Not nervous yet. I have started the pre op diet even though I only needed to do it 2 days prior to surgery. I have lost 7 pounds so far. Pre op starting weight 223, current 216 height 5' 7". Goal 130. I think I am more excited than anything to know that all the work this time that I put into loosing will stay off. 1.5 years ago I was 146 pounds then a pregnancy happened and it all came back plus. This is my heaviest weight ever. I love reading everyone's stories, it's so motivational.

Pre-op appointment was yesterday. I'm all cleard and ready to go. Best news I got yesterday was that I DID NOT have to drink a bottle of Magnesium Citrate. YAY!!! :) Also found out that my leak test is done in the operating room so I won't have to drink anything nasty and do X-rays!!! Double YAY !!!! :)

I'm all set for surgery on Firday. Good luck to everyone getting sleeved today and tomorrow.

Will try and update on Friday afternoon or Saturday about the surgery.

I'm pretty calm right now. I'm scared to death that I'm going to flip out in the hospital and regret it afterwards.

I was just sleeved on March 11th!

First 2 days were tough, but I am doing so much better today. I feel hopeful Here is my story so far:

I am a 47-year old business executive who has struggled with obesity for 28 years. I have never in my adult life been not obese or morbidly obese. I reached 400 lbs in August of 2000, and began to somewhat serious about exercise and diet. I lost about 30 pounds on my own, but then suddenly lost 40 pounds with almost no effort, although I was very tired and thirsty all the time (you guessed it, Type II Diabetes).Since the time of my diagnosis I have been through many, many diet routines, and have lost between 40 and 60 pounds each time, but nothing ever really changed on the inside. This especially drove me crazy because, as a business executive, I focus often on breaking out the spreadsheet, figuring out the problems, and rationally coming to solutions.

I attended a seminar from Dr. Pennings in Post Falls, Idaho and heard two things I had never heard before, which were the real clinchers for me. The first was a discussion of the hormone grehlin and the stomach's role in producing it, what it is supposed to do, and what happens when that gets out of whack. This really spoke to me because I had always felt that there was some kind of overpowering urge to eat in ways that could not possibly be good for me. A true addiction. The 2nd thing I heard that night was that a person with my current co-morbitities had the same mortality rate as an otherwise normally healthy 47-year old man with no other co-morbidities who had just been diagnosed with Stage II colon cancer. When I asked the doctor what the requirements were for a person with Stage II colon cancer, he said, "Surgery."

This was all on the heals of my parents both having very severe health problems in their early seventies, Suddenly I could see that the path I was on was surely a pathway to pain, worse health, a loss of time with my wife and children and early death.

All of this together made me face the fact that I had to have surgery, and use it as a tool to achieve my goals, instead of viewing it as the final option for those who had failed in every other way.

I am only two days out from VSG surgery, but am very hopeful and confident in the future.

I had to take the magnesium citrate yesterday (nasty) today is Clear Liquids. I've been on liquids for 14 days so no big deal. Surgery is tomorrow and I'm getting pretty nervous. But looking forward to my new way of living:)

So ... today is my birthday. I am having kind of a down day :( Birthdays are normally a big deal in my family. Parties, alcohol, and lots of food. I am way out of my element right now. I feel like I can't Celebrate my birthday at all. I hate this feeling! I keep telling myself over and over I did this for myself, this is my present to myself. It's just hard to except no celebration for my one day. I know I know I should not think like this and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity I have been given. It's just a hard day :/ Also on the negative my husband has to work all day and I wont be able to see him at all on my birthday  End rant! Thank you all for listening. Hope all is going well with everyone.

Presher87, I am in the same boat! My birthday is on the 27th and my surgery is on the 15th. Every year my bday is a big deal. I delight in forcing my family and friends to dress up and go out. This year, I have no plans. And I, too keep telling myself that this is my bday present to myself. Maybe I'll just postpone celebrating until I feel up to it.

Thats my plan.... Celebrate in a couple more months when I am feeling good. Thank you all for understanding

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
