I'm fortunate that we have a third party patient advocacy program that's separate from our insurance but acts as sort of a middle man; explaining benefits' date=' procedures, a 24 hr rn, etc, etc. My advocate and assigned rn have been so helpful. The rn has called to check in on how I'm getting on in the process every few weeks. She answers any questions I have and talks to me about all sorts of health/lifestyle related issues my family may be concerned with. So far I've been checking off the pre-op requirements at a fairly steady pace. This week I've had nothing to do and the next thing I have to get done isn't until the 30th. The more time passes, the more room my nerves have to grow. It's so strange to me to be both terrified and extremely excited. Reminds me of my first pregnancy. Anyone else wishing March world hurry up already?[/quote']

Wishing March was here.....

I've got my nose to the grindstone working to reach my preop goal weight. It's good that I have this goal since I WANT the date to hurry up and get here.. but no so fast that I can't lose the weight first! I'm still super positive about the procedure. Not worried about the actual operation, more nervous about failing.

I think when you've been overweight basically your whole life, you get used to not feeling "worth it" or feeling like you don't deserve the best. We get used to failing. We have to STOP this way of thinking. We ARE worth it. We CAN do it. When we start our pre op diets, we just have to keep thinking that we CAN, and we WILL, and we are WORTH THE TROUBLE, damn it.

Yay finally got my date yesterday, Tues March 5th 2013!

But I actually consider my first day being Feb 19th, the first day for the preop diet, and the first day where I have to stop eating the stuff that I love, JUNK FOOD!

How long is everyone taking off of work? How painful is recovery? I can be kind of a baby but I have had a c-section and 2 other births.. I also have 7 tattoos... And tmi but have had hemmriods cut off after having one of my babies... Just trying to think of painful things I have gone through... Oh I have also had a breast augmentation... Sooo wonder what the pain of this recover will compare to... Do you think it is realistic to go back to work 10days after surgery? I am a teacher... Which doesn't require a lot of activity just standing/walking a lot.

My friend had gastric bypass she returned to work 8 days later I'm hopeful for that success!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
