Some of you probably know I'm a massive advocate for transparency of this procedure with the people in our lives, family, friends, work mates.

I've noticed I've been doing something recently and I think I might change it up, just a little. In my need to be transparent I think I over disclose. When people say to me things like 'You've lost weight, you look great' after thanking them one of the first things that comes out of my mouth is that I've had WLS.

I guess the reason for my post is to clarify my thoughts. I've put in a lot of work to lose this weight. It's not all about the WLS. I've been managing my diet, exercising most days. WLS is part of the story.

My policy now is if I get a compliment just thank them. If they ask how I've done it tell them eating less, exercising more and WLS.

Cheers,

Deano

It was really hard for you to take credit for all the hard work you've down. I'm happy that you recognize it and have decided to make a change up and just say thank you. If they ask further, just tell them that you've reduced your portions and am exercising.....Because that's he truth. :) At least that's what I've decided to do for myself, especially in the beginning. In fact we were in the mountains and a lady was telling my DH and myself a great place to eat and that they give you a lot of food. I caught myself telling her that I have decided to eat smaller portions and smiled. Boy was I surprised. Now that's an awesome NSV for me...... :)

Good for you! Reading your post made me wonder what it is that makes you say that? Could it be your subconscious? Curious. I tend to be an open book about this too and I can see me doing what you do post op. I am to be sleeved 2/19. Dee

Thanks Dee. I think it's the opposite to subconscious, I consciously made the decision to be completely upfront about it. I think VSG is a great thing and I think it's a great thing I've done. I think others can benefit from my enthusiasm about it! I've just got a bit carried away and need to wind it back a bit :D

Good luck with the surgery - you won't know yourself in two months ;):)

This is my approach as well. I tell fewer and fewer people but I can tell some people just really want to know. I don't have any problem owning up to it but the sleeve is only half the battle. We aren't just lazing around waiting for 'not being able to eat more than 4 bites of something' to help us shed pounds.

I had to start doing this as well. I was very up front initially about having surgery (and really I still am), but I have arrived at a point where I am losing weight because of lifestyle changes and not because I had surgery. By saying I had surgery discounts everything else I have done to lose weight including all of the exercising.

Now I am just as likely to mention MyFitnessPal and Zumba. :)

I am having my surgery on Tuesday and have been very open and honest about having the surgery but lately I have been having second thoughts about sharing. I am afraid it is going to put more pressure on me. Everyone seems to think I will be skinny in no time and It will be easy for me because I am having the surgery.

Don't be anxious - you will get results relatively quickly. Good luck on Tuesday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
