Order to do things?

Recommended Posts

What order did everyone do things to get ready to go to mexico? Like did you pay the deposit first, then passport, then plane tickets? Or is it better to do it another way?

Deposit, passport, plane tix. I didn't buy my tickets until I knew my passport was in hand.

That's the order I did mine too. Make your deposit first to get your definite date set, make sure you get the passport a couple of months prior to make sure you have it in time, then book your flight :)

Sounds like there are some experienced Mexico folks on this thread. I am waiting on insurance approval but wondering what I will do if I get denied. I've seen lots of people on the site have great success with going there for the surgery. I don't want this to come across in a negative way but I need to be educated. If I were to go to Mexico for the surgery, what would happen if there were complications and I needed extra medical care. Would I be responsible for those charges? I'm not sure that my insurance would cover out of the country and due to a surgery that they may deny me for. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance!

I paid the "expedite" fee to get my Passport book and Passport card sooner. (I have BIG travel plans as a reward for weight loss, thus the Passport book!)

Paid the deposit with the surgeon, got the Passport, bought the plane tickets. Now all of that is done, all I have to do is sit around and obsess/freak-out about it all. Oh, but will begin the enjoyment of my pre-op diet on Monday. ;-)

@houaton17

Good question. My brother who is a dr went to MX. He developed a complication. He had to fight with the insurance to get it covered. He has his hosp CEO and a politician go to bat for him. He was flown out of His home state to a top notch med center to get fixed and recover. Please contact your ins cpany to

Find out if they will cover. Or determine how to get back to MX to fix. After doing my homework, talking with my brother I am choosing to go forward.

I also added extra time to get my official bank check. Since I use an out of state bank that took an extra week. They ask a copy of the check emailed/faxed at least 2 weeks prior to surgery, then you bring the check with you.

Read through your insurance policy. Mine covers emergencies arising from non-covered procedures. They give a plastis surgery example. Not really any different if it were cash in the US.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
