maintenance. .

Hey everyone! I'm slowly approaching maintenance and I need ideas as to what you all that at Maintenance are eating daily. Do you still count calories? Do you eat carbs now? What's an example of meals in a day for you?

Hey there!! Congrats on heading into the longest, forever phase of our journey!! I'm 2 yrs, 7 months out and have been sucessfully maintaining for 2 years. I feel like I eat just as a naturally thin person eats. I DO still do the on line food log, it's habit and I like to see what I'm doing. It is sooooo easy to let the calories go up or maybe be slacking with Protein. I do it almost daily, just like I weigh every single morning! I am able to maintain with between 1200 and 1300 calories. If I drop below that by much, I'll continue to lose, if I add some, I'll gain. I need to keep it pretty close.

I like to start my day off with protein if possible, an egg, maybe two, or one egg and a piece of whole wheat toast. I put butter on it, I use the whipped butter and do it lightly. Some times I'll eat a thin bagel with a wedge of cinnamon laughing cow cream cheese or an English Muffin with a slice of 2% American cheese melted on it. I still like the 'breakfast of champions' - 1% cottage cheese, about a third cup and four or five pineapple chunks. (in light syrup) For lunch, tuna, one can lasts me two days. A can of solid white tuna mixed with 2 TB lite mayo. Sometimes I add a couple of sweet or dill pickles. I eat half the can (ton of protein), half the can without pickles or anything other than mayo is 1/4 cup. I will eat that on Special K Crackers, I think 17 is a serving. I don't usually eat that many, 12 is plenty with 1/4 cup of tuna. I've also eaten it on the mini club crackers. Less than what a 'serving' is. For dinner, 3 - 3.5 oz of protein. Baked or grilled chicken, pork chop, beef. I'll steam a veggie, like Brussell Sprouts, and eat two. Maybe steam some new red potatoes and eat 1/8 cup. Some times I'll make spaghetti and I can eat somewhere between 1/2 cup and 2/3 cup. I always use low fat sour cream (or use plain Greek yogurt instead), 2% cheese, 1% cottage cheese.....the only fat free thing I use is skim milk. I like to keep a bag of shrimp around and steam a few oz for lunch....high in protein and is easy on our tummies. I hope this helps!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
