Hi everyone! I was sleeved on 12/17 and down 27lbs. But for the past 1 1/2 weeks I have been stalled. I am tempted to take one of my HCTZ capsules bc I feel I am retaining Water. My doctor had suspended it post surgery bc it would cause dehydration. Anybody here take HCTZ? Can we even consume CAPSULES?

What is a stall? How long does it last and how do I break it? A stall is a point at which the scale stops moving for a period of time. The length of the stall varies from a few days to a few weeks and sometimes a few months. Non VSG’ers typically call it a plateau. Stalls are perfectly normal and to be expected. As we lose weight so dramatically, our bodies need time to catch up physically - this typically happens during a stall. While the scale may not be moving, you may notice an increase in compliments. This is because while the number on the scale isn’t getting any smaller, you are physically getting smaller. There are many tips and tricks for breaking a stall (increase your fluids and Protein, increase your activity, up your calories…) but the reality is it will break on its own.

You have lost 27 lbs. Give your body the time to reshape. It's important.

I take my hctz...no one ever told me stop....hmmm. I know if I don't take it I will retain. I may want to look into this. I was sleeved on the 9th!

Yeah, you might want to speak with your physician, I used to take Water pills before my surgery, but was told to stop as well, because you can loose your kidneys, if your not getting in your fluids.

Believe it or not I have read a number of times that the best way to get rid of Water retention is to drink more water. The body won't give it up if it thinks it is not getting enough. Kind of like the starvation syndrom is with food.< /p>

" My doctor had suspended it post surgery bc it would cause dehydration."

Your doctor knows best. Drink more Water and continue on your diet and exercise. This too shall pass.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
