Kaila312 19 Posted January 16, 2013 Okay guys I am 5weeks post op and have lost 40lbs! But since the third week i have been at a stall. Is this normal? Also yesterday I got a pain in my stomach that felt about what it was like after I just had the surgery. Now today it is somewhat better. Any ideas as to what or why? TheGamer 406 Posted January 16, 2013 Yes, it's normal. Just do a search for "week 3 stall" and you'll see that it happens to a lot of us. It's also possible that the pain is related to the internal stitches and muscles pulling. I did that myself and it wasn't pleasant =\
Lander 74 Posted January 16, 2013 40 pounds in that amount of time is a HUGE amount. Your body NEEDS a stall to catch up. Good grief. Give it the time it needs to play catch up. It's part of the system. What is a stall? How long does it last and how do I break it? A stall is a point at which the scale stops moving for a period of time. The length of the stall varies from a few days to a few weeks and sometimes a few months. Non VSG’ers typically call it a plateau. Stalls are perfectly normal and to be expected. As we lose weight so dramatically, our bodies need time to catch up physically - this typically happens during a stall. While the scale may not be moving, you may notice an increase in compliments. This is because while the number on the scale isn’t getting any smaller, you are physically getting smaller. There are many tips and tricks for breaking a stall (increase your fluids and Protein, increase your activity, up your calories…) but the reality is it will break on its own. rswa3319 69 Posted January 16, 2013 Lander, thank you for the info on what a stall is!! I think that is a very logical way of thinking of it and something that will help me. I keep hitting stalls that last a couple days to a week or so and heck yeah it's frustrating!!! One of the things I was VERY upfront about with my NUT and surgeon was that in the past when I hit a platau my willpower would give out before the scale would budge. They were both very supportive of that and said that this way my body actually wont allow for that to happen so it will condition my behavior and thought process. It's been working mostly but there are still times where I just wanna throw the scale across the yard. lol
Lander 74 Posted January 16, 2013 Plateaus is where I used to always give up, too. Now that I understand the important part they play in weight loss, it's a whole new perspective. I welcome them when they come. When the numbers on the scale drop, only I see it. When the inches on my body change, everyone sees it. Who can't be happy about that? Stalls perform a great function. Wish everyone could read and understand that. What good would it do to lose 100 pound if our bodies never changed to reflect it?
