Canadian Legal Advice - Ontario Law

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any criminal lawbackground, I desperately need advice as I have a lawyer but would like to have a second opinion...

Here is the case briefly: I have been charge with three counts of assault as a result of defending myself. My spouse and I had a fight, and he almost threw me out of the car and I punched him, for him to stop trying to push me out. Now my lawyer told me that I am facing most likely jail time and this is my first offence, is this usual for first time criminal offence? what other outcome could there be?

Our opinions are worthless without facts or legal degrees. Our opinions may actually be harmful to your case. See another lawyer.

And Good Luck.

Sunshine, I have no legal advice for you, as I am neither an attorney nor a Canadian. But I wanted to write and give you big hugs.

My DH's niece was punched repeatedly by her husband while SHE was driving (and their two kids were in the backseat) on the Beltway near DC. She was badly bruised, black eye, etc. He didn't do one hour of jail time. In the US, a first time offender almost always gets probation - unless it's murder. I actually know a woman who shot and killed her husband, was tried for manslaughter, and got probation. She served less than 24 hours jail time. That was in Texas. On the other hand, I have another niece by marriage who hired someone to kill her ex-husband (in Georgia). The ex-husband is fine, no attempt was made on his life, but the niece went to prison for 10 years. She got out in about half that, however.

Moral is....get good legal representation and more than one opinion. You just can't second guess a jury. And once they bring in a verdict, you can't call "do-overs".

Oh, and one more thing....don't loan money to relatives who are at war with their spouse/ex-spouse.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
