Still hurting...sleeve on jan 8

Recommended Posts

I am still taking my pain medicine regular. I had my sleeve and hernia repair on Tuesday, jan 8. I didn't get to come home until Friday night because I couldn't get anything at all down first few days. The first time I was able to get liquid pain mess down was Friday afternoon. I am still having a hard time. I have one spot that is sunk in and hurts bad...feels like it is pulling. Is this normal? I can't see how I will be ok to go back to work or drive in a week.

I took pain meds for two weeks. I tried switching to tylenol about day 8 and spent an uncomfortable few hours. With the tylenol, I could feel pain around my stomach, not all of it matching up to exterior incision sites.

Everyone heals at a different pace and many heal faster than I did. You might be fine to go back to work in another week if you have a desk job. Is it possible to work a few half days or even 3/4 days? Can your doctor extend your medical leave time so you can wait longer to go back if needed?

I had my surgery on January 9th, pain is worse when I move around a lot for the most part mine is a dull ache from time to time. Yesterday I had a lot of pain compared to today, as long as every day is a little bit better you should be fine. My pain was more gas pain than anything. Are you walking everyday? My doctor wanted me walking about 30 mins a day minimal. I broke it up into 2 walks of 15 minutes. Everybody heals a little different. I think the most important thing is to move, don't get dehydrated, and make sure each day is a step forward. This is such a big change for our body, hang in there. I hope tomorrow is a better day.

I'm having the same exact issue as you. My surgery was on the 10th and I feel great except for the largest incision which like you said is sunken and I get a horrible burning, tearing, stinging sensation when I move in almost any direction. I can't stand erect, I have to hunch over slightly which hurts my lower back. The pain meds really don't touch it to be honest. I called my doctors office yesterday and they said this was not uncommon and the pulling sensation could last for weeks but the pain would slowly get better.

I'm with you though, if it still hurts this bad by next Monday, there's no way I could go into work. Right now it's a challenge just to take a shower. It's really annoying because otherwise I'm doing really well!

Thanks everyone! I know what you mean about not being able to stand up straight! I have to hunch too and I am barely walking at all...just a couple minutes to the bathroom on the other side of my house and back. I am so glad to hear I'm not alone in this but I hate that y'all are having problems too

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
