What's the most difficult thing for you

Recommended Posts

I am 4 weeks out and have lost 65 pounds. My most difficult thing is getting all the Protein in that I need and getting solids down like baked chicken

I think getting my Water in is the most difficult thing. I do OK on the protein.. Congrats on your loss, that's a huge amount of weight to lose in 4 weeks.

Getting all my liquids in; still only at 32-40 oz. a day. I have no problem eating chicken, put it in the crock pot with some Soup or chicken broth & taco seasoning if you like spicy; it'll be very tender and the tummy may like it better. Good luck, and great job on the loss.

I am still not able to eat steak. Well, I do TRY but it just doesn't seem to digest very well. Thank goodness there are other options. When I cook chicken breast, I always use a digital thermometer to let me know when the internal temp is 160. (The temp will still rise a little after that.) This is the easiest way to cook a breast so that it is super moist. I've done the crockpot method, but it seems to get "stringy" to me.

64 pounds in 4 weeks?! WOW! Congrats!

I would definitely say getting in all my liquids is really hard. And not drinking after meals or even with them is still a huge issue for me 4 weeks post op. I'll get the hang of it eventually.

As for the baked chicken, maybe you should try pureeing it until you can try again at week 6. Or what about canned chicken? That's softer and mushier!

i have trouble w/ Portion Control or not stopping when I am approaching satisfied. My mind set is still with the clean plate club. There are starving children you know (lol). I just need to think of food differently now.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
