fancynancy 39 Posted January 16, 2013 Okay, I am 6 days out. Surgery on Jan. 10. My belly is as round and hard as a snowman. I gained 10 pounds in the hospital. Was there for 2 nights. No complications. Followed directions. Walked the halls every 3 hours. Even in the middle of the night. Have had horrible left shoulder pain! Have gas, had one bowel movement since surgery after using Miralax. scale hasn't even gone down!!!! Seriously, this hasn't been so exciting! It's been a PAIN! Can't sleep through the night cause my body is toooo sore! Ugh! How's this for encouragement? Ugh!
stomlin75 161 Posted January 16, 2013 Give it a little more time. It will get better. I suggest getting out and walking, even if only for 5 or 10 minutes at a time. This will help the gas resolve much faster and you are going to feel better. You are still early out and everone is different in their recovery and weight loss. ReduceReuseRecycle-Me! 119 Posted January 16, 2013 Ummm...it gets better, honest. I was sleeved 12/27 and it was rough at that time and it is much better now. I almost feel back to normal.
jis2blessed 14 Posted January 16, 2013 It will get better, I promise. My surgery was on 12/18 and the first week or so is not a picnic. Try to get as much liquid and activity as possible to get that gas out of there. Hang in there.
MOMW 71 Posted January 16, 2013 Keep a positive attitude and remember this is temporary and will pass soon. A lot of your pain is from the gas. Walking and a heating pad helped me. Some say shoulder rolls help them. I definately would start stool softeners and ask your team for a good laxative choice. This is probably where your hard stomach is from. Drink your fluids as they help too. If none of this helps or you develop more issues, get a hold of your team. Take care and speedy recovery.
justmeandmysleeve 91 Posted January 16, 2013 The first week is the worst, you will turn the corner soon. I had the same "what did I do to myself" feelings for the first few days. Stay strong, it will be worth it!
No game 14,437 Posted January 16, 2013 Lol welcome to the club! This will pass. My stomach was huge when I got home and I'm a tummy sleeper so that sucked for awhile! And yes you will be up on your weight for a while but it is just from surgery.. Give it a week, you will be a little less miserable then
Supersweetums 1,164 Posted January 16, 2013 Like everyone said, it will come. They pump you full of gas and fluids and it all makes you feel like crap. I gained 10lbs after my surgery and didn't lose anything until I was almost 2 weeks post op! Take gas-x or something like that, it helps get the gas out. Also, you are not eating anything, it is pretty normal not to go. Just be careful, it is really easy to get constipated. Good luck!

I was operated on 8 Th. and I had problem in gas and due to gas they kept me in the hospital for 3 days. I didn't have the bowel moment till after 5 days and that was only 1 time . I did lost 26 lbs . Overall it's been a very pleasant exp. I stopped taking my insulin back doesn't hurt snoring ( sleep apnea ) is way less. I feel great I never knew gas hurts that much till after the surgery.I was warned about the shoulder pain because of the C2O gas they use during the surgery as it only escapes thru shoulder.I never experienced any shoulder pain though. I would say just hang on and you will start to see your weight melt away. Sent from my iPhone 5 using VST
