Nearest beach to main airports. Need help please

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am a lapbander but want to ask a question unrelated to weight loss.

I want to visit florida but need to know where the nearest beach is. I know the Hilton have a hotel on a beach but which is the nearest airport .

Is there a beach near Disney world.

I would be coming from Manchester airport in the UK.

Another thing I would like to know is where the Americans themselves stay when on vacation in Florida.

One more question. What is the weather like in December

Hope you can help.

Best wishes

laine

I used to live in Florida about 40 miles from Orlando. When you mention "beach", do you want ocean or gulf? Orlando is about midway from Daytona (ocean) and Tampa (gulf). If you have kids, Orlando is nice for Disney, Sea World, Universal, etc. If you don't, I would skip Orlando and head for beachfront.

We lived in Lakeland Florida, then moved to Indiana, now live in Texas. Absolutely loved those Florida years, though. BTW, best of luck with your lapband! My 20 year old daughter had the band on June 22 at the age of 20 and has lost almost 55 pounds. I monitor the website to get ideas on how to help her. But she's doing great on her own and has found the "journey" quite rewarding. The band is everything we could ever have hoped for her.

That's what I want to hear. I was in Fla twice, once at Rollins College and then at Univ. of Fla. Up to Kent State for Grad school and then also to Houston, where we seem to be settled in for life, for better or worse.

Silverthread, I haven't been in Florida for ages, but here's my recollect. Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Orlando/Disney is right in the middle, so you can stay AT Disney and enjoy it, and then move on either east or west about an hour or two (?) to get to the beach. If you head east, you can stay in Orlando if you like party beach life, or wander north along the coast to St Augustine if you like history and quaint. Instead, if you head west...hmmm...I think you end up in Tampa which didn't used to be as intersting, unless you like to watch tarantulas walk off the banana boats (Sorry, Tampa). But there are quieter pretty Gulf Coast beaches south of there...Ft. Myers, Sanibel Island... What do you like? Fancy hotels with spas? Cheap hotels ---just a place to leave your stuff? Teenage party beaches or old folks walking around collecting shells? What do you have in mind?

Thanks for replies.

Betsy Jane ........Ugh! definitely don't want to see tarantulas walking off the banana boats!! So won't be going to Tampa!

Just wanted a hotel either on or near the beach not too far from the Airport.

Hoodier hater ......... so pleased about your daughter. You must be so happy that she has a great future ahead of her.

Leather g Fort Lauderdale sounds wonderful. Might try there.

Carlene I will contact Tired Old man - thanks.

Laine:)

I guess the biggest question is, what are you looking to get out of the vacation. That would be the biggest guidance in where to stay.

For Kids or amusment parks? Disney or Universal studios

For Relaxation? Maybe Disney, maybe a particular beach. If I was going to FL just for a beach vacation and some mild fun, I would go to the Keys.

All depends on what you want.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
