5 days postop band to sleeve and have a few questions...

Recommended Posts

I feel great, though I do get exhausted out of the blue, I figure this is normal?

I don't have any real pain anymore, but I do feel like a stretching, or pulling sensation under the incision where my port used to be. Is that normal? It's not painful, but I do feel it.

I am still having trouble getting in 64oz of fluids daily, but I do the best I can. However, today I managed to drink an 11oz protien drink in about 20 minutes...I have no idea if this is okay, normal, etc.

Vitamins taste awful, how do you manage to take them multiple times per day?

What Vitamins are you taking? I had stretching and pulling till 3 weeks post op and my back hurt on and off. Not a constant pain just when I moved certain ways or sat for a long time with out moving. I could not keep my eyes open for the first week and half as soon as I sat down I was sleeping. (it was so odd for me as I am never like this) I have good days and bad days with fluids sometimes I am tight. I try to drink something hot/warm in the am to loosen me up sometimes I have to drink a warm drink mid day for this also, stress really effects me.

Congratulations on feeling great so soon out. The exhaustion is normal and is related to reduced Protein intake, usually when you feel exhausted if you drink some protein it will make you feel better quicker. The feeling under the incision is normal as it is still healing, that site will not be as far along in healing as the others, as long as it doesn't hurt you don't need to worry about it. The Fluid will continue to get easier as the swelling goes down, most find it is easier to drink warm fluids during this phase as the warmth helps decrease the swelling. You should try not to drink more then 8 oz in a half hour but if you do it does leak through the pyloric sphincter so it does not have any bearing on what the size of your sleeve is. The taste of the Vitamins pretty much will grow on you. Hope this helps, good luck.

If you are doing the gummies beware some of them have carbs.

YES! Richard you are so right! As much as I didn't want to agree with you, I checked my Calcium Gummy and they have to go. My multi-gummies are ok though and that's a good thing because that's my Lil' treat plus the multi pills are too ginormous for me to handle twice a day.

Thank you for slappin' some sense into me :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
