2.5 months out- constant nausea, vomiting, tightness

Recommended Posts

I don't know what's going on. After my release from the hospital things have been ok. I did have occasional vomiting, but I know it was due to eating too quickly. However, this weekend things changed. I have been nauseaous since Sunday around noon and all day Sunday I couldn't keep anything (even water) down. Yesterday I managed Water, the juice of an orange and some crackers. But, still felt nauseaous the entire time.

Today I've had two bites of oatmeal and sips of Water. In addition to the nausea I feel almost like there's a ball in my chest. It's very hard to explain this sensation, not fullness, not hunger, just an awkward tightness I can't get rid of. I take prilosec every morning, I don't think this is related to reflux.

I'm scared it's some sort of complication. :( I have a follow-up appointment with the nurse practitioner at my surgeon's office next Thursday, but that seems so far away at this point.

As others have said call your dr right away. It could be anything, possibly even a stomach flu there have been several of them going around, but even if that is the case you need to see the dr to find out how to deal with it now that your stomach is so different then it used to be. Good luck.

Thank you all. Just left a message with the nurse :) I thought it was a stomach virus initially, but now I'm not sure. I've had that before and this just feels different.

Sounds like you may have developed a stricture to me which is a narrowing cause by scar tissue. You'll need to have an endoscopy to have this checked out. If this is the case, they can usually dilate the narrowing using a balloon dialator.

Don't let yourself get dehydrated and go without nutrition...if you have to re-book your appointment then insist they see you today if possible!

Let us know what the doctor said. I also have constant nauseous and some vomiting. I go in next Wed, but the doctor is going to prescribe me another nauseous medication so hopefully this will help. It has been way too long!

My nurse practitioner last week said she thought I'd probably had a stomach virus and the vomiting from that made my stomach and esophagus swell causing more vomitting and nausea. I'm definitely feeling a lot better but still get the nausea and vomitting occasionally.

I'm going to see her tomorrow so will report back then.

Just some advice. Don't drink orange juice. Your tummy doesn't need that acid right now. My thoughts wer stomach bug, severe indigestion, or heart problems. I hope it's neither and you're fine by now. Best wishes!

Don't drink juice - period- if anything, you're only allowed 4 oz of low sugar juice a day. But it's not worth it to me, I stay away

I disagree if she can't keep anything down at all she may need the juice for blood sugar. When I was hospitalized for mal nutrition due to inability to keep much of anything down my Surgeon allowed me to drink anything that sounded good that could stay down including regular juice and Popsicles bc he said I wasn't taking in any other calories anyhow he wanted something in me.I still lost during this time as I was still only taking in 300-400 calories.

Thanks for all the concern.

My doctor is fine with oranges and juices. I drink diet juices and she has even recommended them. I don't really have any problems with acid or reflux, luckily, unless I forget to take my Prilosec.

My gallbladder was removed at the same time as my sleeve surgery.

Saw the doc today and she has ordered and endoscopy to check for a stricture. Hopefully will have that in the next 7-10 days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
