mobrien1103 3 Posted January 15, 2013 I am working on scheduling my surgery and my doctor mentioned that if you have heartburn before having the sleeve procedure then it could sometimes worsen to the extent that medication can't control it and the only solution would be a bypass. I am not thrilled about possibly having a bypass...but I will do what it takes. Has anyone on here had the sleeve surgery and had heartburn prior to surgery (on medication for it). And did the heartburn worsen and could you control it with meds? I am excited about the thought of finally losing the weight, but not really wanting to have another surgery in my future. Thanks! jis2blessed 14 Posted January 15, 2013 I was diagnosed with gerd a few years ago but not a terrible case. My surgeon mentioned the same thing but when he asked if I got heartburn much and I said not really then he wasn't worried about it? I have had heartburn since and have been taking Zantac which does help. My surgeon said that it will get better its just that there is no room in there right now. 1 month out tomorrow.
