Losing Slow In The Beginning

Recommended Posts

Hi Friends,

I was banded on September 29 and lost 18 pounds from the post op diet until the week one visit.

Since than, I've only lost 5 pounds since October 6th (4 weeks) and I've already had my first fill on October 27th !

At times I don't know if what I'm feeling is FULL or food IS STUCK!

Can anyone offer some advice on a good eating plan. I cannot go back for another fill until November 17th and want to have a few more pounds off by than. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Chrissy,

I've been very fortunate with steady weight loss in the 8 weeks since my surgery. Here are some of the things that I think have helped:

No sugar.

Limited fats (the good ones, like olive oil and canola oil).

Bandster portions (a cup or so of food per meal).

3 meals per day, and up to two Snacks, each under 100 calories.

At least 8 glasses of Water per day.

A Multivitamin (children's chewable) each day.

Fibersure 3x/day.

Chew, chew, chew, & eat slowly (even before you have full restriction)

That's about it. Good luck with your weight loss journey!

Tami

Hi Tami,

Thank you so very much for writing back. Your tips will be very helpful. Especially the Fibersure (I had not heard of that).

How much did you lose BEFORE the surgery? Did you do full liquids for one week prior to your surgery?

What is an example your daily meal plan?

Thanks so much.,

My surgeon didn't require a pre-surgery diet (other than liquids the day before surgery).

For Breakfast, I usually have either:

**a poached egg with 1/2 sl. 2% American cheese and a sl. of Pepperidge Farm thin bread.< /p>

**oatmeal

**Kashi Cereal with 1% milk

lunch and dinner vary, depending on what's in the fridge, or what I'm fixing for my family. I try to cook a batch of something once a week that I can grab for a quick meal...like turkey chili, or veggie beef Soup (lots of beef & veggies, & little broth).

Edit: Oh, and for Snacks I usually have V-8, turkey Jerky, raw almonds, or sugar-free, fat-free yogurt or pudding. Sometimes I have those 100 cal. packs, but if I eat carbs then I'm hungry much quicker.

I'm trying to avoid pre-packaged foods and fast foods, so I'm actually doing more cooking since I got the band, even though I'm eating less food! But, I find I can have something a lot more healthy and tasty if I fix it myself.

Tami

Hi Chrissy,

I was also banded on 9/29. You're ahead of me. I'm only down around 9 lbs. I just got my first fill on 11/6. Before my 1st fill I was able to eat anything. Now I am just trying to get used to the restriction. I've experienced that tight very painful feeling in the stoma after eating certain foods. I don't know what my procrastination is but I must start my exercise regime. Also, I must get serious about beginning a healthy diet. I do okay but I could do better. This band thing - it's so wierd. I read so much about it and then now having it, it isn't exactly what I expected. I don't understand why everyone loves it. I was just thinking, I am never going to eat in front of other people ever again. Because when food gets stuck, the discomfort isn't something you can easilly hide. I wish you continued success in your weight loss. You are doing good!

Sweet Sue

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
