January Newbies ! Progress ?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved January 22. I've had an amazing recovery and have had no problems whatsoever. I currently am able to get in 60 ounces of Fluid on a regular basis and between 60 and 90 g of Protein daily. I use 2 1/2 scoops of the Unjury unflavored Protein Powder in 16 ounces of crystal light strawberry lemonade every day. You absolutely cannot taste the protein and it tastes so much better than any of the 20 or so Protein Shakes I tried but was unsuccessful in getting all the way down. With just those 16 ounces of fluid I'm able to get in 50 g of my protein just with that. I make it in a thermos and usually take about two-three hours to drink my lemonade so my body can slowly absorbed the protein. I also have 2, 17-ounce bottles of Water and a couple of cups of decaffeinated coffee every day. I started at 325 and as of today I've lost 36 pounds.

I am 4 weeks out today. I feel great! No problems to speak of. I am down 15.2 lbs since surgery and 41.2 from my highest weight. I know 15.2 lbs doesn't seem like much, but if my goal weight is 120lbs, then I have lost 25% of my excess weight, so I think I'm doing pretty good.

Great idea Cadilex to put unflavored Unjury in crystal light! Why didn't I think of this? Much cheaper than the zero carb Isopure bottles. Thanks!

All I can tell you is that I can't taste it at all. So easy to get in a lot of Protein and a fair amount of liquid all at the same time. Just make sure you drink it fairly slowly because your body can only absorb a certain amount of protein within a short time period.

This Thursday marks 5 weeks post op and according to NUT and Doctor, can now start on soft foods. Slightly nervous and excited at same time to chew something!

Random question for the day:

I love to sleep on my tummy, but nervous about it. Anyone else feel same way or when did you sleep on tummy again?

Surgery was Jan 24 2013 and am 25 pounds down since surgery total of 46 down so far. Had about a week of discomfort, but still am having issues with getting more than 24 ounces of Water in daily. Protein is pretty much over 50 grams daily.

I was sleeved on the 17th of jan and I have been sleeping on my tummy since a week and a half with no issues. You can always try to sleep on your side with a pillow supporting your tummy.

3 weeks out today and down 18 lbs. 14 of which came off the first week. I'm happy though, may be slow going but I know six months from now these little losses will pay off!

Been on soft/mushies for a week and have another week to go before I can have all foods! I can't wait! I want a piece of chicken so bad!

be careful with the chicken. I had 3 ounces of very moist chicken tenderloins in a cream cheese sauce on Sunday and paid for it for the next 2 hours. it didn't look like much, but should have only had 2 ounces. thank goodness for the digital food scale I bought.

Thanks for the tip Success2013! I do need to invest in a scale before I move on to solids! I saw a few with good prices on Amazon. Sorry you were sick :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
