Foodie at a fraction of the price

Recommended Posts

Looking forward to the day when a small amount of high quality cheese, a few escargot or a bite of pâté will be enough. Quality and not quantity baby!

I've always been a foodie myself. It was always so expensive to try new restaurants and discover new cuisines because I was always hungry. I would eat a plate of delicious food at a higher price and still be hungry. And broke lol. NOW it's awesome. I can order an appetizer, save some cash, fulfill the 'foodie' in me and feel totally full! It's great! I will always be a foodie who loves to try new foods, cook and try new cuisines. I was afraid that would be something that changed after surgery because I've seen people who just didn't enjoy eating. That thought made me sad honestly. But that is still who I am now- now I just am able to REALLY enjoy the small portion of what I'm getting and not scarf it down! It's awesome :)

Fallenangel, what appetizers do you order? I would like to order appetizers but the restaurants I go to the appetizers are basically sugar, fat on fat on fat and a lot of salt, so I avoid those. Really would like some help with ordering healthier appetizers. :) Thanks

It definitly depends on the place. It's true a lot of appetizers are usually fried :( I've ordered things like caviche, lettuce wraps, crab cakes (pan fried, though they had breading) I had a duck salad once at a Thia place- was duck, apples, peanuts and some greens in a sweet spicy sauce. Very good. I've seen tuna carpaccio as an appetizer at a few places (cheesecake factory is one of them) that would be a good option. You have to look. It's a little bit tough but doable and I course depends on the place. A lot of the chain restaurants don't have anything good on their appetizers though. It's mostly fried and greasy.

Actually with smaller portions you can break out of the typical chain type family restaurants and dine at the more upscale establishments. 2 people (with one sleeve) can dine together on probably one meal and spend the same as you would have done ordering appetizers and two Entrees at the other place.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
