Absolutely No Appetite

Recommended Posts

Okay, I am 2 months out and while I am please with my progress, I am getting a little worried (and depressed about this issue). I have absolutely no appetite. It is a chore to eat. I dread having to force down my next meal. Nothing tastes good, even foods I used to love. While I guess this is partly the whole point of the surgery, I wish that I could at least feel hunger again and enjoy the few bites that I do take. I cannot think of any food in the whole wide world that I am craving right now and I have not since surgery. Will I ever get my appetite back at all? Thanks for your support fellow sleevers. Don't know what I would do without this forum. :)

Hang in there! You will get your appetite back and taste buds back. There are still some foods that don't taste the same to me, but, things are much better. I'm about six months out and there are days I don't feel like eating nor have a taste for anything. Those days I just focus on getting my Protein and fluids in. I'm so pleased with the weight and clothes falling off, I don't worry about the food. There are those days when I really do have a taste for certain foods! So, hang in there!

I agree with Chilihot59 - I think at month three my taste buds started coming back along with my appetite. Hang in there- you will enjoy food again!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
