banded on Nov. 1

Recommended Posts

Hello all of you newbies. And some of you oldies too. I just got my band on Wednesday, Nov 1st. I think I am doing well, except for the feeling of bloat, even after I chew up some gas x!! Please tell me this goes away! I know the doc off. said it could last up to 6 weeks.....:) It would be nice to keep in contact with someone banded at the same time, if anyone is out there.........

Hi Kristi and welcome to LBT! I really didn't have much gas after surgery, but I have heard gasX and walking does wonders for it. My problem was Constipation, ugh!

If there is anything we can do to help you through this stage, just ask. That is why we are all here, to help and support each other through this journey with our new best friend, the band.

Thank you girls for responding. I had been using the gasx, but it says not to use more than 4 chewables a day. So is it okay to use more than that? I couldn't find any liquid gasx, do they make it? I thought about buying some beano, but you know........it wasn't what the doc. ordered.

Thanks for all the information........

My doc told me to walk like 5 minutes every hour for the first few days. It worked wonders for the gas in my belly. I didn't ever have any shoulder pain so many people talk about, but I sure had the bloated feeling.

Walk, walk, walk. It REALLY does help.

Hi Kristi, I was banded on Oct.31 and I had the same problem...I used Woodwards Gripe Water. I used it for my daughter when she was a baby instead of the Mylacon and it worked like magic then and it works very well at relieving the bloat and making you comfortable again. Hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
