Is Muscle Milk ok to use as a protein meal?

Recommended Posts

I am pre-op a couple of weeks yet but I am getting ready. I was wondering if we can drink Muscle Milk? I heard there is now a Muscle Milk Light.

Had the same conundrum....I use regular muscle milk for 34g Protein and 500ml of fluid...it does add 360 calories though. Lite has much less in categories; you get 20g protein at 160 calories (i think). Cost wise the regular is the way to go for protein....but if you need to closely watch your calories and having problems getting your Fluid in, the lite would be better IMHO. My physician wants me to at least get in 1200 cal a day....but I'm a 6'3" big boned, much muscle mass guy. Smaller framed people would need less....always work with your nutritionist and surgeon to determine your appropriate needs. We're all built different in this world, underneath the fat ;) .

I love it! I put it in the blender with ice and strawberry yogurt.

Sounds good thanks for all the input folks. I was wondering about the Ensure as well. I understand that the chocolate isn't too bad.

I am still buying my Protein Shakes from Grand Health Partners in Grand Rapids. I use the chocolate shake & pudding one. It only has 15 grams of Protein, but I mix 12 oz of light soy silk with it which brings it up to 24 grams of protein for Breakfast. I put it in the blender with 4 ice cubes. It tastes good, but I am wondering what I can switch over to because this is purchased from my doctors office which is over an hour away.

I've been using monster milk (not muscle milk) for years. Both made by cytosport, with monster milk you get 50g per serving, has creatine as well as BCAA 3:1:1 ration (is rare to still find that ratio these days since most are watered down.) The thing I really like about MM is it tastes a hell of a lot better than some of the dog crap tasting Proteins do in just Water, to limit the intake of calories.

My surgeon specifically says no ensure. They are considered weight gainers.

My doctor said no Ensure or Slim fast shakes either because they have too much sugar.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
