Hello fellow PCOS SISTERS...

I am wondering what post op life is like with PCOS? My Surgery is in march, I was dx in 03ish with PCOS and it's a part of life. My husband and I have no kids and we know this is our ticket to children... But as far as periods, hair growth ect... What are the changes your experiencing?

I'm almost 3 months out & I'm sad to say that there's no change with my PCOS at all. I've lost 60lbs as of today. I hope your journey with PCOS goes better :)

I have PCOS as well. I'm 3 months out and i've lost 56 lbs. I have noticed a small decrease in the Hair growth and I actually started my period this week! (on my own - no meds - for the first time in 6 years!)

Most women aren't excited about starting, but as you ladies well know, it doesn't just happen for us. I just want to be normal! VSG was the best thing I've EVER done for myself!

I have PCOS, I haven't had a period on my own for probably over 10 years! I had surgery Sept 14th and have lost 86 pounds. December I got my first period ever on my own without have to have it induced my medication. I have never been so excited to get my period in my life! It was so bad for me though, I had to stay home from work for 2 days because of how weak I was and bleeding so bad there was no way I could function at work with having to go to the restroom every half hour! It lasted about 5 days, only 3 which were super heavy and bad. Then in January I got it right on schedule and it was not bad lasted about 3-4 days nothing like the one before. I haven't really had any of the other issues like Hair growth. I just get a few stray hairs on my chin that are really coarse and I pluck them. They haven't stopped coming in though :( But surgery has def helped get my periods back. My husband and I have been married a little over a year and before this I could not get preggo. Neither of us were married before or have any children, so this in itself for me is worth the surgery. Give it time, I hope this surgery works for all your PCOS like it did mine :)

I am 9 months post op. I am on the pill and prior to surgery would only get my period may 1 out of thee months and they would be more like spotting than a period. Since the surgery my periods have came every month, but I am still on the pill. I am not tryin to get pregnant so going off the pill to check my cycle is not an option. I do notice that my facial Hair growth is greatly reduced. I would say that it's about 70% less. Also my skin has pretty much cleared up. I guess I would have to be retested via blood work when I go get my check up with my obgyn.

I also suffer from PCOS....I was diagnosed at 17....I am still preop and hoping for the best with getting the sleeve. My husband and I want to have children but of course with PCOS that has been impossible. Oh, the issue with hair on the face is horrible for me.....it has gotten worse. I did however, have my first period in a year in December (i can count on it to come once a year in December). I am glad to see that the VSG could help with some of the issues.

I, too, suffer from PCOS. I am 2 months post op, down 50 lbs, and have started my cycle 2 times on my own since surgery. Before surgery, I was having a period once a year (maybe). Now ive had 2 in 2 consecutive months! The first was just days after surgery so I attributed it to stress to the body. The other came exactly 28 days later and was heavy for a day or two, but otherwise normal. Here's to hoping that PCOS has met it's match!!!

I totally understand, my period only starts at the worst time... Holiday, day at Water park, beach ect... The facial hair!! I hate it! The ladies where I get waxed always say.. " you don't shave!" I always say... "I don't shave! It's a medical problem!" I'm looking forward to that calming down and also attempting to conceive children! My husband and I of 18 years want children so bad, due to our wt, my PCOS and he has ED... I am hoping and praying that Sleeve helps to fix us somehow... We just want to be healthy again

I am 16/17 months out and am the same.

Regular periods every 24 days lasting about 3 days (some months really heavy sometimes really weak). I still have facial hair but it is less and takes longer to come back.

Have lost over 170 pounds and feel a whole lot better about everything.

Great job on your weight loss!!

I'm glad to hear the Hair growth slows.... Periods every 24 days for 3 days... I can deal with that! That means in 20 months hubby and I can try to conceive!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
