newcomb9 5 Posted January 14, 2013 Did anyone develop new allergies after surgery? My husband was sleeved on 12-20-12 and we just ended up in ER tonight with him having an allergic reaction. He didn't eat anything new or come into contact with anything new. He's never had this kind of thing happen before. His face turned red, hot, and itchy. And by the time we got to ER it had spread to his hands, arms and belly. And then hives started popping up. He's safe now, hes getting IV meds, but we are worried this will happen again. We are curious if this could have anything to do with the surgery?
CBT 450 Posted January 14, 2013 My understanding is that we develop allergies over the life span. We develop allergies to things we previously have not been allergic to as our body increases its his one response to an irritant. For example when I was a teen, the owner of the pizza company I worked for developed a severe Allergy to flour! I hope he gets a good referral to an allergist and some instruction about how to stay safe. A list of typical allergens would also be helpful. Get well soon!
