How soon I'll feel like travelling after surgery

Recommended Posts

May go on Spring Break with my kids 2-3 weeks after surgery. Spring break will be lots of time in the pool & hot tub. Will I be ok?

I wasn't allowed to 'soak' for a month post op. check with your doc. I say you might be a little more tired than usual, but you should be ok!

Incisions have to be completely healed before tub, etc. I am 2 1/2 weeks out and would love to start traveling again. My doc said it was ok I just don't have the energy. Hope to by Mardi Gras!

I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and I still don't like the hour drive to the surgeon's office. Also agree with poster above. You won't be allowed into a pool or hot tub yet. Incisions will not be completely healed. I still have steristrips on some of mine and some of them still burn. Discuss with your own doctor what to do. Never take your advice from the internet where you will get a thousand different answers and none of them from a doctor.

For about 5 weeks I had the sh!ts really bad so you might go off food before being stuck in a seat. Other than that I doubt any big deal. People fly back home when they have it done in Mexico at less than 5 days all the time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
