kst3r11 0 Posted January 13, 2013 Hi. I'm new to this group. I currently have a lap band (Oct 2008) and am completing the program to have the band to sleeve revision. Since having the band I've had a baby who is now 16 months old. So I'm a month or two away from surgery and my biggest concern right now is post op activity allowed. Am I going to be able to take care of my daughter post op? When will I be able to pick her up again? She's such a mama's girl and won't be able to handle me not being able to hold her. Help! Richard Foor 655 Posted January 13, 2013 Commonly post op you have a 20 lb weight restriction for about 2 weeks. As for getting up and moving around i.e. chasing kids around the house, it is better to get moving as soon as possible and as much as possible. The most important thing to being able to get moving quickly is getting your Protein and hydration in. Hope this helps, good luck.
920amy 409 Posted January 13, 2013 Yes, the biggest thing will be being able to pick her up I was restricted to not being allowed to pick up anything over 25 lbs until I was 2 months out. On the bright side though, I felt good enough to do just about any activity again after only about 2 weeks. No more pain, soreness, etc. Everyone heals differently, I would think even though you could not lift her, you would still be able to cuddle her, maybe if you have one of those carriers that you wear like a sling, nless she is too big for that? You could still sit and hold her in your lap, but I think it would be tough to get around being able to pick her up and hold her for your own safety. Talk to your DR. and see what he reccommends. Good Luck!
jen1211 203 Posted January 13, 2013 I had no lifting restrictions from my doc...just activity as tolerated and the first week I avoided picking up my son. The second week I did a lot more of picking him up and I started having a lot of pain. I would say to at least give yourself 2weeks. My son is pretty big though at 33lbs
