steele160 9 Posted January 13, 2013 doea anyone know if sleevers are at lifelong risk of getting a leak?
carolina girl 56 Posted January 13, 2013 Sleevers are only at risk in the first few weeks. Once the incision has healed in the sleeve there is no risk of a leak. Basically, it's like any other incision make to your body, once the cut heals back together there's no risk of it opening back up.

Richard Foor 655 Posted January 13, 2013 Leaks tend to be the scariest thing you hear about with this surgery. But if you look at the actual amount of people who have the surgery compared to the amount who get leaks it really is a small ratio. As was already stated above after the first month you don't seem to hear of anyone getting a leak, and my surgeon told me after the first month we don't need to worry about leaks anymore. Good Luck
steele160 9 Posted January 13, 2013 thank you. i am one month post op today! i feel hood- but read some article that listed 5 dangers of getting the sleeve- kinda insinuating it is an ongoing risk. so - was curious. - thanks again!!
920amy 409 Posted January 13, 2013 I have seen a few people that have had leaks 2-3 months out, I was told I would still be a leak risk up to 6 months out, so I guess like anything, it depends on which Dr. is giving you what info, I think it sounds more reasonable to think 1 month and you should pretty much be in the clear though. I was told after about 18 months your stomach will have grown over the staples.
