It's a good class. You will meet the rn. The dietician and the dr who will do your surgery. I had dr. Grinberg. He's wonderful! I'm 4 days post op and haven't had any issues. It's a very supportive group there. I think you'll like them. Just be aware though that the hardest part is getting in to see the psychologist. I had to wait over a month after I was already at goal weight because I didn't know I could make an appt with him when I got within 5lbs of goal. So keep that in mind. As soon as you are 5lbs away get your weight documented at your drs office or the bariatric office and get that appt made! Good luck to you!

The class is 'mindful eating' which is something the psychologist will recommend depending on how you answer his questions. It is not mandatory and I must have done ok with him because it was not suggested for me. I went to orientation on oct 19, met with the surgeon the same day (try to prearrange to have the entire day free cause they will probably offer appts after the class) and got my goal. I had to lose 13lbs before surgery. I lost that much in a couple of weeks on the diet they gave us. But then had to wait till nov 29 for the psychologist appt. once I got his blessing, the other appts went pretty quickly. Had to meet with the nurse, go to the pre op class and meet again with the surgeon. There isn't a real timeframe from orientation to surgery. It's just a matter of getting thru all the required appts. After meeting with the surgeon, you need to get labs done and an EKG. EKG is walk in so just go do it. The 13 lbs I was asked to lose turned into 41lbs by the day of my surgery but hey who cares if its list before or after surgery. Let me know how you do.

Hello everyone, I'm also going through Kaiser for surgery. I'm in the Fremont Bariatric program and so far so good. I've met with my surgeon on 12/19/12 and I need to lose 26 pounds. 6wks before at the orientation I had weighed in at 306 and by the time I went in for my appt. I gained 10lbs. So with that being said, its tough, I've also stopped smoking now for 9wks that's where some of my weight gain came from and a lot of it is emotional eating but I'm not giving up. Good luck to the both of you.

Yes unbelievably enough after smoking for over 9yrs I stopped. When you go to orientation they will tell you you cannot hide smoking because they will take a blood test during the process and before surgery. At least that's what the surgeon who gave the orientation told us. And besides I couldn't hide it I had it on my med record that I smoked a half a pack to a whole pack, depending on the kind of day I'm having.

Hi there can you share with us how you lost 41lbs and how long it took you? I'm having a really tough time losing my 26 lbs my dr wants me to lose. Its been 4 wks and I've only lost 3 lbs. I'm watching I'm eating, I've cut down a great deal and I'm doing cardio at least 4-5 days a wk for 40 min. Am I being too hard on myself? Please help!

All I can tell you is I followed their diet pretty much. Basically 3oz Protein, 1 cup veggies, a fruit and a starch. At dinner I had an extra starch. I didn't do any heavy duty exercise. Only walking during my lunch hour. I tend to lose weight pretty quickly when I stay on a diet so maybe my results are not typical. Also I faithfully drank my 64oz fluids every day. I don't know what the magic answer is, as everybody is different. Are you using myfitnesspal or something to track? Maybe take the logs in and talk to your NUT to get some new ideas? I think your weight will eventually come off but totally understand your frustration. Hope that helps.

Thank you for getting back to me on that. Its driving me nuts, but eventually this weight has to come off :). How long was the process from beginning to surgery date for you? I attended my 1st health ed class on 10/27/12, Surgery Orient on 11/11/12 and met with my surgeon on 12/19/12. I'm going through Fremont Kaiser Bariatric Program and they're really helpful.

I don't remember when I attended the health Ed class but the surg orientation was 10/19. Met with the surgeon that day and started my diet. Was offered 12/24 surgery date but didn't want to spend Christmas in the hospital so the next date available was 1/9. I went thru south sac bariatric center. Love them.

That's awesome thank you and congratulations on your new stomach, hopefully you're doing well. I use to think that wls was a cop out, but after doing so much of my own research and reading up on the info from my dr. its far from it. Thank God for internet . I wish you well on a speedy and healthy recovery and can't wait to read about your updates. God Bless.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
