How many calories is everyone taking in a day about 3-4 days out?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 1/8 on 1/10 my dr started me on full liquids and blended foods ie: blended chicken with low fat mayo, blended tuna with low fat mayo, blended Beans with chicken broth. I am seeing people on here still on Clear Liquids. Each serving is about 2oz. With the Protein Drinks I am taking in about 560-620 calories. Does that sound like a lot? I know each dr is different but just looking for feedback .

Hi Mel,

I was on clear liquids for 2 weeks following surgery. However, it almost did me in. I was weaker than a baby, and close to collapsing on a regular basis. I was absolutely not getting in enough calories - still don't know how I could with clear liquids and taking in a max of 4 oz/hour.

My doc's rationale for the 2 weeks of clears is to protect the stomach incision site. They never mentioned calorie goals - just clear liquid goals. It's actually something I'm going to bring up when I go back, because I don't think almost collapsing in the shower is what they had intended either!

Even on day 4 I had such terrible gas pains that I was only eating sugar free jell-o and sugar free popsicles. So my calorie intake was virtually 0. I wasn't able to start clear liquids until day 5 or 6.

The first 2 weeks after mine I couldn't have any mushy foods. Even yogurt felt like a lump in my throat. Istil late it, but stuck to broth mostly. I am eating about 600-800 cals a day right now, consistently, and I am 7 weeks out.

So to me, yes, that does sound like a lot of cals...lol :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
