Gallbladder surgery worse then VSG!

Recommended Posts

Had my gallbladder surgery jan 10 and I swear it's is worse then when I had my VSG! This gas pain is horrable! I'm uncomfortable all the time and my incisions hurt like crazy! I was suppose to be in and out but ended up staying over night because they starting overdosing me on meds. They told my family that the amount of medication they had in me would kill a normal person, why am I so differant?? My heart rate was over 150, and my oxygen levels were dropping to the 50s. They said my respiratory was shutting down, they knew I had VSG and I had sleep apnea. They were yelling at me for dozing off ur if u ha as much pain meds I did u wouldn't try to be awake I couldn't see and I was vomiting I was a mess! And scared! I've had no appetite! But I'm trying to get better each day and hoping no more surgeries for awhile and I can get off of this stall im on!!!

Sorry to hear you had such trouble with it. I had emergency gall bladder surgery and I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on anyone. Constant vomiting, mind bending waves of pain, inability to walk or think straight - I should have called an ambulance but I asked my friend to drive me to the hospital instead, I almost didn't make it inside. I'm not sleeved yet, but I'm glad to know it won't hurt as much as that! All I know is that the more I walked and farted, the better I felt. I was pretty sore for a while. Hang in there :)

I had galblader issues crop up in my 8th month of my first pregnancy. Pretty bad, in fact. I had to wait until my son was further along and induce so they could take it out safely. Just 12 hrs after giving birth I was wheeled in for surgery. I was double fortunate - stiches in two regions of my body (if you are picking up what I'm laying down). I was on my own trying to nurse and take care of my infant while recovering since my hubs was deployed. It was uncomfortable but do-able. I didn't use even a third of my prescribed pain meds due to nursing.

I haven't had my surgery yet but hearing that galblader was worse than the sleeve is somewhat comforting. Though, I've also heard the sleeve was worse for some than galblader, I'm just trying to put my energy into thinking positive. So, thanks for sharing your experiences because it's adding to my positive thinking!

I had the sleeve, gallbladder and hernia surgery all at the same time.... They had me blown up like a balloon for about four hours!!! I can't compare to any other surgeries but the gas pain was awful!!! I'm the kind of guy who has broken an ankle and just laced my boot up tighter and went to work. Pain never really bothered me until this gas crap they inflated me with.... I was walking around the hospital within minutes of waking up because they told me it would help.... Kinda embarrassing though due to the amount of gas that worked its way out my rear. I just wanted it out!!!

I had a harder tiime with my gallbladder surgery...however this could have been because I also had surgery on a broken ankle at the same time...2 for 1 special lol...In hindsight not the smartest move...had the worst gas pains cause I couldnt get up and walk it out, and then they put on crutches and that is all ouchie as they cut up my core..

Today's a little better still sore, I've been at a major stall with my sleeve I've been like 228 for 3 weeks but I got on he scale this morning and was 223! It's probably due to lack of appetite but I'll take it! Hats total of 77lbs so far btw I was sleeved 10/9/12!! Back on the road to a new me!

I had the opposite experience. Had my gallbladder out, spent an hour in recovery and went home. Next day I was up and about, driving my kids where they needed to go. Never took a pain pill. So I based my ideas for the VSG recuperation on that experience. I insisted I would be fine, wouldn't need pain meds...I had three C-section, a tubal, and a lap chole under my belt. With those procedures I never took pain medications. In fact, with the first baby I labored 36 hours drug free and was pushing when I need an emergency section. So, in the hospital with my sleeve, I had 2 doses of IVP dilaudid, went through 45 mgs of Morphine in my PCA, and took pain meds at home. 2nd day post op I was regretting my decision...heck, I think that lasted the whole first week!!

Hope you are feeling better! Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
