Hello everyone, I hope this post finds you well. I had my surgery 3 days ago on Jan 9th with Dr. David Suh in SoCal. I had mixed emotions on proceeding with the surgery mainly because of fear of not making it through the surgery and not being there for my kids. Luckily with my husband's support and doctor's confidence, I felt assured that everything would be fine. Upon waking from surgery I had the typical nausea symptoms but not significant pain at the incision areas (morpheme works wonders). As my stay at the hospital progressed I felt better. Walking helped tremendously with getting the gasses out of the abdominal area. I am now finding that the real efforts with staying hydrated is a challenge. Water intake is difficult only because its a sip at a time and with wanting to sleep during the day, one can easily get dehydrated. It will take some getting used-to. For now all I have is taking this journey one day at a time and before long will find all this second nature. Best of luck to everyone.

Hi there. I had my surgery with Dr. Suh Friday 1/11. I'm still at the hospital, but hope I get to go home later today. I too have had my reservations about the surgery, but spent a good amount of time reading these forums and most people have nothing but good things to say about it. I wish you a fast recovery!

Wishing you both a quick recovery as well. I too questioned if I had made the correct decision, but as days have progressed find that it was the pain, anxiety, the 'unknown' that were leading my thoughts. Not to say that I'm out in the clear now, but certainly everyday that goes by and the feeling of pain diminishing and being able to tolerate more Water intake, reminds me and puts me back on track that I made the right decision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
