Anyone try them? At which time in the post op phase did you try them? And which ones did you like the most?

I am one month post op, and eat seafood, turkey/chicken, and well steamed veggies. My doc cleared me for raw veggies next week. I forgot to ask him last week at my visit about the bars.

Once you have clearance for raw veggies you can eat anything. With my doctor that's 6 weeks. i have some leftover Protein Bars from my pre-op diet and will supplement with those as Snacks when I get to 6 weeks. The KetogenX bars are pretty good and Ideal Protein has a few that are pretty amazing too.

Most of them have way too many carbs for the Protein. They can be good as a last resort if you're out hiking in the wilderness or on a long bike ride, but there are other options if you don't mind planning and preparing in advance.

Same. I keep some in my work bag so that if I'm out and about on a job I don't get caught out. You really have to research them, some are particularly high in carbs / cals.

I'm still pretty early on (right at 3 months out) and i have one mid morning pretty much very day. I love the Carmel Crunch from BariWise. I order a box if those and a variety box from Bariatric Advantage every couple of weeks.

I also keep a few in my desk or in my purse in case if emergency. They're handy and they taste good. My NUT said they're a good choice for the 1st six months or so. :)

Just read the labels, my dr said anything with more than 15 gr of sugars it just a glorified candy bar...& alot of them have way too much sugar & too many carbs! Atkins has some good ones...I only carry one for emergencies. You can get more Protein for less calories other ways.

I eat 1/2 of a "Pure Protein Bar" for Breakfast. I usually eat the other half at some point in the day as a snack. They have 20 gram of Protein and 1 gram of sugar. I buy them in costco. My Nut recommended them. I really like them ... I began eating them at 6 weeks post op.

I have a hard time with food for Breakfast for some reason. My sleeve doesn't seem to want to digest the food early. By the time lunch rolls around I am ready for food. I don't really understand why..... But, for me I had to figure out a adjustment that worked. Sorry for rambling on...

Best wishes! Tina

Tina, that bar also has 15 net carbs per bar and you can bet those are high GI carbs, meaning they get converted to sugar as soon as you eat them. Those high GI carbs put your body in a fat storing mode and help block the burning of fat no matter how few calories you eat. They are working against your goal. There are certainly better ways to get 20 grams of protein. Those bars are not the worst thing in the world, but I wouldn't eat one every day as a Meal Replacement.
