1st week

Recommended Posts

Follow your doctor's guidelines. My doc requires Clear Liquids only the first week. I will be having chicken broth, Jello, Popsicles, lots of Water, Isopure, etc. Again, your doc should have given you a post op nutritional guide to follow.

I wonder why my doctor didn't tell me about sugar free ice pops. I've been reading how many people have them post op. I'm def buying some tomorrow!,

I went grocery shopping today to get ready for my first week post op. I bought crystal light packets, sugar free Jello, and broth. I'm excited yet nervous! And I've been having a hard time with my pre op liquid diet :/

What problems have you been having with your pre op diet? Just curious since I will be starting that soon!

My liquid diet consists on drinking 6 slim fast shakes per day. I've been starving and getting really bad headaches. I started 3 days ago and I've cheated everyday. I went from eating over 2000 calories per day to drinking only liquids. It's just been a difficult mental game.

In the past I did a Protein diet... And it is all liquid Proteins for a week or so... Getting through the first 3-5 days is the key. You body has to adjust and it will. Drink hot tea when you feel a headache. have a glass or real cold Water when your feeling a little hungry. Drink it slow... You can do it. Post surgical success depends on your pre surgical planning... You got this!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
