Hey guys! So my surgery is set for this upcoming Thursday and I was put on a liquid diet one week prior to the surgery. I'm having a hard time with this, any suggestions to keep mentally strong?

Keep your eyes on the prize. Make plans for meals, exercise post sleeve. Enjoy your life as it is now and look forward to the new you. You are not just reducing you are being released.

The liquid diet before surgery is notorious for being hard to take. You are not alone. Tough it out, you are investing a tough now for a much better tomorrow.

My surgery is Wed Jan 16 at 3:00!! I'm so excited. I have been on pre op liquid over a week and all I can say I'd it is worth it! I'm down 14.6 lbs already!! I found that cucumber sliced with some rice vinegar helps me in afternoon, though doc said no veggies 3 days prior to surgery.

Knowing after 7 days I have lost some weight has really helped in keeping me focused! Hang in there we are almost to our dates!!!!

Me too! Big day is the 16th! Praying for safe surgery and speedy recovery for all of us!!! I have decided that I will be good and keep my preop diet. Came a long way, and so close now , cant afford to mess things up. I was told kaiser weighs until the day of surgery - so no weight gain allowed.

Just know that it's for a short time and by sticking to your pre op diet you'll get the best outcome post surgery. Tough it out and remember why you're doing this!

Good luck,

Deano

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
