Yes, I may have omitted additional symptoms. I know what Dumping Syndrome is and in fact my doctor did warn me that is possible with the sleeve.

I'm not looking for a diagnosis. But rather simply share what is going on 'in a day of the life' of a sleeved-one. Dumping happens! Not everyone here is dealing with it. However, this is a support group and I am merely looking for some light hearted support from people like me.

No, it's a good post and I'm glad you shared.

It can happen but in just about every case I've seen it's related to dairy, sugar, artificial sweeteners or too much of something too fast.

I had a horrible time with the diabetes test they did on me recently - all that glucola Syrup was NOT making my body happy. And I did have issues in the beginning and it took me longer than I would have liked to discover that I had full blown lactose intolerance. Sharing your experience can help other people connect the dots more quickly or at least go into the surgery armed with a little more education on what could happen post op.

No, this isn't RNY and dumping isn't the norm. I would say it's not even common. But people should know the symptoms and signs and be prepared to address it, for sure.

Hopefully you figure out what caused the issue, OP. Until this pregnancy my lactose intolerance had resolved and the only absolute no-no food for me was ice cream, something I avoid anyway. I could even consume very small portions of cow's milk if it was in a sauce of some sort. So if that's the answer, it might improve for you, too. I still maintain a sensitivity to artificial sweeteners to the only time I ever consume them (intentionally) is in my Protein shake. It just happens that the one I like the best has artificial sweeteners. If I eat more beyond that I experience discomfort, too.

Good luck,

~Cheri

I have never been lactose intolerant prior to being banded. After being banded about 4mos, I became severely lactose intolerant. Trust me, this was no where close to being lactose intolerant.

However, I do see a pattern. Being banded in the past, I've developed a habit of Water loading before eating food. Tonight, I did it with Thai Tea.

Going to learn to make better choices.

Dumping can happen to anyone at any time. It just depends on what is going on with their body and what it doesn't agree with. I had it on occasion before and after surgery. You just have to pay attention to your body and what it can tolerate, and be careful because it likes to change its mind every now and then on you and you get caught in a stinky situation. :-)

Dumping usually only occurs with bypass patients and usually when they have too much sugar.at least thats what the surgeon told us at group

I'm a type 1 diabetic' date=' and my surgeon didn't want to do the bypass because of dumping. Can't bring my sugar back up if I'm dumping..... So I guess he thinks you won't dump with sleeve. Others have said you do, I don't know. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />[/quote']

MrsGina, I'm a type 1 diabetic too. The first surgeon I spoke to would only to a bypass on me but I knew that dumping would be bad for me. I'm still pre-sleeve and my new surgeon was resistant but willing to sleeve me. Did you have any issues during surgery or recovering with you blood sugars? Have you seen improvement in your A1c tests? I'm scheduled for March 8 and I'm very nervous about being able to correct low sugars early on.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
